I think this might be my next bike - XSR700

Featured Replies

Spotted this coming soon on Yamaha's web page today, and I think it looks great.

Only a 700cc parallel twin so no rocketship but I love the styling and details.

75bhp or thereabouts. It's basically a restyled MT-07 which gets good reviews

75bhp is enough for the road really.

It looks good anyway. Buy one? ;).

Yep, saw that earlier - it really reminds me of the SRX400 I had (which I should never have sold).

Will try and get a test of an MT07 in the mean time, and then see what the price ends up at.

I really like that, proper retro cool. Same kinda look as the Ducati Scrambler but slightly more road orientated. I keep wanting a TW125 from my teens but with more power, this kinda reminds me of that.

I don't like it myself, but as long as they've not detuned the mt-07 lump in it then it'll have a great engine. The mt-07 is a great little bike according to plan the reviews and road tests, and an absolute bargain, given the ridiculous prices bikes have risen to. I'm quite partial to thevmt-09 myself, and got offered a cracking deal by a dealer recently - brand new, on the road and in the best colour for £6800, including a free fitted Akrapovic full system worth a grand (plus the oe system too), so you'd only really be paying £5800 for the bike. If I'd actually been in the market for a new bike I would've got my wallet out there and then.

Useless trivia time - the TW 125 had the dubious honour of being the slowest road legal motorcycle on sale in the UK. Not sure Yamaha ever put that in their brochure though, lol.

Really?! That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. It used the old SR engine I think, I guess the combo of that and a ridiculous 190 back tyre didn't help as it wheezed it's way up to about 45 on a flat :D I loved it though, had character and never let me down. Some pikey nicked it out the back garden :(

If that is true... Youd be left behind by a Honda C90. Ahaa.

Hahaha, it really was slow. My uncle and his mate had midlife crisis, went off together and got a pair of 125s, my uncle got the TW and his mate a DT, this was 2003ish I think. Needless to say my uncle was left behind everywhere. My dad bought it, kept it for a few months then gave it to me when I turned 17, I think he planned to use it between big bikes but realised how slow it was and got his VFR750.

By this point my little Suzuki Moped had been derestricted and done about 45mph, I remember the TW wasn't actually much faster, just sounded less likely to explode. :D

Good info though, if I do get another to play with, don't try to race ANYTHING basically :D

Ahaha. Sounds brill.

Noo. Thats not the 125 spirit. You have to race everything. You wont win, and others wont realise youre even racing, but youll have a grin on your face haha

Hahaha, true that.

My brother starts sunday, he said there's just the owner and the delivery guy at the moment and they're flat out, they've got 3 bikes apparently so once he's in and he tells me what it's like I might offer to do a few shifts when I'm off just for a laugh :D

700cc 75hp should be nice lazy power.

I always quite liked the XJR1300 which is quite similarly styled.

Bikini fairing, rear hugger and a belly pan FTW

It should be yeah. It wont be a peaky engine i wouldnt of thought.

A nice broad spread of power making it nice and easy to ride at any speed would be lovely, bumble about on it looking cool.

It won't, if they've used the mt-07 engine without detuning it. It's a grunty little thing, and in the mt it's cleverly geared too, to make it feel stronger than a dyno run would have you think, effortless wheelies just a flick of the wrist away.

Aesthetics are a subjective thing, but I don't think it looks cool. I think it looks a mess, like they're trying too hard to make it look like something from the shed built, skinny jeans, beard and check shirt hipster crowd.
