The vtec lurches it forwards as it reaches 7k revs. Even if not on full throttle.

I've never ridden a VTEC (or any VFR - they've never been my kind of bike, although I always did like the looks of the FR-FV RC36 model, with its NR750 inspired styling), but all the road tests of the time really criticised the VTEC system's abrupt delivery. It's a bit naughty of Honda calling it a VTEC really, since it doesn't actually have VTEC (which has always been Honda's acronym for theirvariable valve timing system), it just uses two valves per cylinder below the switchover point, and all four valves above it. I've never really understood what they were trying to achieve with that, apart from maybe increasing fuel economy at low revs, I think it's just one of those Honda being Honda moments, like the aforementioned NR750.

I never learn, lol. Was it Einstein that said that the definition of insanity was repeating the same actions, but expecting a different outcome, lol?

Like I always say each to their own and if you are a biker and enjoy what 'you' do on a bike then 'that' is what matters in my book. We are all made different and life would be boring if we weren't. I see no reason to knock a fellow biker for doing it their way.

I'm not knocking anybody. Each to their own. Just responding to the "fair weather biker" tag, which most people use as an insult, to imply that you're less of a "proper biker" than those who choose to ride in all weathers - which, frankly, is utter cods**t, lol. I'm happy to admit that I'm a fair weather biker, it's the only kind I want to be. I never call myself a "biker" though, I don't like the word.

Ill be honest. I had a clenched bum before i smiled lol.

But its a reminder of why i usually ride below vtec in the wet lol. I dno why i did tbh. I should of short shifted befote and used the torque, but it shouldnt of spun up that easy either.

I remember years ago, when my old mate and riding partner in crime moved up from his 600 Bandit to a 1200 (with race can and 1 tooth smaller front sprocket). First time out on it he thought the clutch was slipping until another mate who'd been following him told him that he'd been spinning up the rear out of corners. He decided to take a leaf out of Kev Smith(then of Performance Bikes magazine) 's book, and attempt to teach himself the art of "rear wheel steering". He found a damp manhole cover on a corner, rode over it and nailed the throttle as the rear wheel passed over it. He didn't attempt that again in a hurry, lol.

Hes got more balls than me.

Even my 105bhp 1.9tdi T5 transporter spins up on manhole covers.

Or less sense, lol. I'm old and slow now, and he hung up his leathers permanently a few years ago, and sold his Renthal motocross barred R1, but we were a couple of f*****g idiots back in those days, lol. Happy days, fond memories.

Yup. Unfortunately you can't get away with riding like that for long these days. As far as two wheeled hedonism goes, if you missed the nineties and early naughties, you missed the party. Bikes (and tyres) had got good enough to go properly and handle properly , but not ruined by all the bulls**t emissions regs and pointless pointless over complication and electronic sh**te that makes modern bikes crap, performance 2 strokes still existed, cheap petrol, far less traffic, far less policing, and anybody who wasn't unfortunate enough to live in the south had never seen a speed camera.

Apologies if you thought I was having a go at you there stripe. In fact quite the opposite. What I was saying was that your way is right for you and that is how it should be.

Nah, I didn't think you were having a go really, it was more a general mini rant at those that use "fair weather biker" as a slur, and think you're only a "proper biker" if you ride in all weathers, all year round. I've nothing against all year round riders, if that's what floats their boat then fair play to them, just those that think anyone who chooses to ride fair weather only isn't a real rider, which is cobblers - to me, whether you're a "proper biker" is about how you ride, not when.

As for the B word, "biker" to me conjure up images of folk with poor personal hygiene, and worse dress sense, who like to ride their matt black rat bike heaps to a muddy field "rally" and sit there getting drunk and talking cobblers with others of that persuasion, lol. It's not a label I'd ever apply to myself.

Im somewhat in the middle.

I dont ride on the salty winter roads anymore, but such as today, theres a japanese bike event in chesterfield, and its given heavy rain at 11am. Nevermind. Im still here on the bike, and expect to get wet on the way home.

 

 

Today's scooter run from Birmingham to the Severn Valley Railway was a washout.

I don't enjoy riding when it's going to be ****ing it down all day, but it won't stop me leaving the house if there's just chances of rain.

 

I think these posts sum me up, I started out saying I wasnt going to ride in the wet at all but as times gone on I've accepted I'll get wet at some point. If like today it's forecast to chuck it down then I wouldnt bother planning a ride out but at the same time if there is a chance of rain I'll not let it put me off going for a ride. 

 

That said, we are all entitled to our own choices, I'd not knock anyone for choosing to stay dry in the slightest, totally understand keep the bike for a toy for summer.

I got soaked coming home from my mates house  :sweat: urgh, bike gear all hung up to dry. 

When I was working I used the bike for travelling to work and back as parking the car was hit and miss. Hence rain or shine I was on it. Now I am not working the bike is purely for pleasure but that means I would not use it in preference to the car if it was raining but by the same token if it rained whilst I was out (as it often does) it wouldn't worry me.

Back OT, I keep looking at the pictures of the XSR700, I liked it to start with but it's growing on me even more......  :angel:

Tempting. Boring as it sounds I really need to spend some cash on boring stuff, I'll deffo be getting a test ride though.

If it had another 30-50bhp, out of a slightly bigger engine, id be getting one too aha.

Late bump, they do a 900 now! Only slightly down on power compared to my CB, same retro looks.
