Rear brake caliper wind back question

Featured Replies

Hi I'm in the process of changing the rear brake pads on my 2010 VRS Estate.got the old ones out OK but when I windback the caliper piston I cannot get it in far enough to give enough space to refit. Went out and Brough the right windback tool but still had the same problem ( basically the piston won't retract fully). It feels like there is a pressure build up not allowing the piston to fully retract, one thing I considered was opening the bleed valve and giving it another go has anyone any thought or suggestions Ta.

,

Have you checked the brake fluid reservoir? You can open the bleed valve to avoid the fluid overflowing the reservoir.

I had to open the bleed valve to get the worn pads back in as they were tight. I just cracked it open very slightly then bled the caliper when it was all back together.

No problems at all since.

Hi Guys,  Yep open the Brake fluid reservoir and when I pushed  the piston back it did fill up ( I successfully changed both front sets with no  probs ).

My concern was that I could not get it to fully retract on the back, and did not want to force it, so had a cuppa and gave it some though and the answer to me was the bleed valve.  Just wanted to see if anyone else had come across the same problem. Will have to wait for a couple of weeks now as the weather is said to be bad tomorrow and away next weekend - fortunately they are not down to the metal yet
