Accuracy of MPG readout on display

Featured Replies

I'm finding that the average mpg readout on the display between fillups is about 10% optimistic - anyone else finding this to be the case? (Spaceback 1.6tdi 90)

Yes, has been discussed here at great length (and is not unusual for modern cars). A search will bring up the previous threads, inc the current "poor fuel consumption" thread.

There are all over speeding, coils, airflow and poor MPG... I did not found about display accuracy... :peek:

Why people messing treads?

I've got liftback Toledo 1.2 tsi and usually difference is 0.2l / 100km.

Varies from car to car but mine is about 6% optimistic - e.g. if maxidot shows 52 mpg, brimming the tank and calculating it gives 49 mpg

For reference:

different between display and calculation of 0.2l / 100km mean about 2 mpg

different between display and calculation of 0.3l / 100 km mean about 3 mpg

Btw.

10% difference is too big...

Checked mine over 9 months.  Reading about 7% optimistic.  I thought I was getting 48 mpg but nearer 45mpg

Is this another case of effectively cheating, trying to fool buyers that it's a better car than it is?

Very disappointed.

You can adjust the consumption meter with VCDS. At least you will read the correct values.
