Hissing/whistling noise on D3

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I'm from Egypt driving a 1.6L MPI Octavia iii.

For the past couple of months I'm constantly hearing a hissing/whistling noise specially audible on D3 while accelerating uphill. Once the car shifts to D4 the sound stops.

I never hear any noise on flat roads...only on uphills and specially on D3.

The dealer naturally is clueless and after three visits they see no problem. On the other hand the noise is driving me crazy !

Any ideas on what might be causing this ?

My car also has some kind of noise on D3. Have not complained to dealer yet.

I remember that Citroen C4 also had something similar.

Has the dealer denied hearing the noise, or denied that it's a problem? Are you able to make a recording of it at all? Does the noise change depending on how hard you're accelerating? If you were to accelerate really hard on a flat road would you hear it then?

Also, tanelv, what did it turn out to be on your c4?

I can't get the dealer to hear it as it needs a steep hill, will try to record it on my way to work tomorrow but its exactly similar to hot steam escaping from an old tea kettle. Hissing. I don't hear it unless I'm accelerating hard on a hill and mostly on D3 only, rarely on D2.

On flat roads I sometime hear it randomly again when accelerating hard on D3. But on hills I hear it almost constantly.

The C4 still does it. Never found a reason. My DSG is more like a whine, not hissing. And always there when I accelerate.
