Freaked out engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

At the weekend i took a look under the bonnet because the idle was low and it kept hunting all the time and found that my air pipe had broken off where it meets the oil breather so i replaced the air intake pipe and decided to clean out the throttle body at the same time cos it looked dirtier than a pub toilet  , put it all back together now the engine is idling at about 1300 and wont slow down? and advice would be helpful

Have you tried the routine for re-aligning the throttle body? You can do this either via a laptop with the VAG-COM software or through another method.

If you use the search tool on here it should tell you what you need to do.

i was thinking about doing that as i have been donated a version of vagcom pro so i just need to get a lead for it

No need for VAGCOM to do it.....do a search for it as I can't remember exact procedure...very simple....open bonnet...open driver door....turn on ignition with turning over engine....hear some whiring...turn off...close bonnet/door...turn on engine...soemthing like that.

yeah, open bonnet and door. turn ignition full on without turning the engine over and you should hear a quiet hig pitch whine from the front of the engine, it will last for about 30 seconds or so. when it stops youcan turn the engine over to se if it makes any difference :)

yup made no difference at all

NB: Worth searching for correct thread.... Door needs to be in fully open position, (so does the bonnet) before you turn ignition to battery (so all dash icons come on) - dont start it. Something like that....

The procedure needs to be followed exactly. Takes about 1 min.

I say crap.

The only way I know of correctly setting the throttle body when it has been disconnected is by channel 060 in basic settings.

Its certainly the only way outlined n workshop literature.i

that will cause me problems then cause i had the TB off when i changed the inlet manifold... :(

maybe the dealers will do it for me today while the cars in for a service, they cleared a couple of codes off the last time it was in so they do run vag-com on it...

I thought you had to wait 2 full minutes with ignition on, car not started.

That's what was suggested when I had the Audi?
