Adding phone connectivity/Bluetooth?

Featured Replies

The car is a Fabia II Elegance, 61 plate, with the OE Satnav, excellent and user friendly, but two questions-

There is no phone connectivity, all the 'phone' button does is mutes the radio. Is there a Bluetooth/phone kit that will be plug and play?

The second Q is the aux socket on the front of the head unit: the handbook says it's a standard mini jack socket, but it ain't. The socket seems to have a central pin, as if to take the kind of plug on an old Nokia phone charger,

Anyone help on either of these, please?

Thanks in advance

Malcolm

I'm not too sure about Fabia's but I believe that from you're description it has a Amundsen or Amundsen+ fitted.

If this is the case then yes, it does take a standard 3.5mm jack like you'd find on the end of most headphones. It sounds like someone may have snapped a connector off inside the headunit if it has a central pin. A picture of the jack would confirm this but I'd expect the headunit to look something like this:

Bluetooth will depend on which headunit it is.

An Amundsen will require a separate module, microphone and wiring loom that can be had for £150 or less on ebay.

An Amundsen+ may have bluetooth built in that just needs activation and the addition of a microphone. The easiest way to check if it has bluetooth built in is to remove the headunit from the car and look for a sticker that says MAC: on it. It should then have 12 digits following it, if they are not all 0's it can be activated by a friendly local member using VCDS. If they are all 0's, you will need a module, microphone and wiring loom as you would for the Amundsen.

Many thanks, yes, it does look like the pic, so I'll have a go at removing the head unit to have a look. It seems that we'll be managing without an aux socket, as it deffo will not take a standard jack.

Can you take a picture of the aux in jack so we can see what the problem with it is?

you will probably need a bluetooth module. My dad has a passat highline with all the phone stuff but no module so is in the same situation.

I'll do my best, had trouble posting pics on other forums, though................

Meanwhile, thanks again for your input!

It was difficult to get ultra close-up with my phone, but I think the innards of the socket can be seen.

Anyone have any ideas, please?

I would definitely guess at it being part of a plug that's broken off inside.

The more interesting question is how to get it out! I suspect the right answer it to open up the unit and see if you can push it out from inside but that's probably quite a daunting task depending on your skill set. I've got one I've taken apart at work so I'll have a look, I think it's about 4 screws to get into the unit and then loads to get to the front circuit board but I can't remember how that socket is mounted.

Belated thanks to all, I have taken the head unit out, it is. "+", but the MAC is followed by all zeros.

TBH I didn't fancy trying to get inside the unit, so it looks like I have 3 options:

Buy a Bluetooth module etc,

Replace the whole unit

Or give up and accept it as is.

A very very long shot, though, I wonder if the extended warranty I bought might cover it...........( not holding my breath!)

Try long nose players to pull out or super glue a small screw on to the end and pull out.

Not sure if RNS315 works with the external bluetooth, so either give up or replace the unit. Replacing would also enable you to upgrade to DAB and RVC too ;)

As it happens, I've got a 315 for sale....... ;)

RNS315 does work with external Bluetooth.
