Updates

Featured Replies

Just to clarify as this thread contains two topics, that's the Bolero update Startin Skoda did. Can't say how much they charged as I had other things done at the same time (e.g. Getting the code for the Bolero so I could sell it).

If you want the digital MPH display then PM me and head over to Bromyard and I'll sort that for you.

Thanks, I had understood that. It is the Bolero update I'm interested in. I'm more than happy with my MPH speedo and small KPH display on the Maxidot.

Earlier Boleros, like the one in my 2010 Yeti, do not have the version option on the 'secret' menu - only the FM and AM status.

So is there a way to update them ?

I wonder why Skoda have deemed you have to do this.

In the TT it's just a choice from the menu. Have had the car from new and it's always been available.

It maybe that the TT already has and MPH and KPH scales on the speedo. To satisfy construction and use regulations there apparently has to be both MPH and KPH readings available to the driver and as the Skoda only has MPH markings on the speedo the digital KPH display satisfies that requirement. Though why Skoda didn't make it easily switchable is a mystery.

35.—(1) Save as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3), every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch, separately.

Why didn't/can't the dealer do it I'm wondering.

If the dealer were able to do it then it would invalidate the type approval of the Yeti in the UK, their tools do not allow them to alter such settings. VCDS is far more comprehensive and can do things the dealers cannot. The tools the dealers have will only alter what VW group will allow and nothing more, unlike VCDS.

Well, I had to go and check after reading this didn't I! Spot on Jim :D

The speedo and rev counter look very similar in both cars (Mk. 2 TT with proper dials not the new fangled virtual display in the Mk. 3!) so I'm a little surprised they are different.

Having said that, I remember at least one of my Passat's being like the Skoda and you couldn't alter the KPH readout.

AFAIK only a dealer can apply updates, at least to this version.  Even then, the kit they have doesn't always admit to the existence of an update that is actually available (which is the problem I've been trying to get solved, on and off, for three years or more).

Earlier in this thread Urrell was skeptical as to whether any version can actually be updated using the online facility.

It isn't just Skoda or the Yeti that have this so-called "problem". The same instrument set-up is used on other vehicles in the VAG range, such as the Tiguan.

Personally I've never found it a problem.

My Car has failed its ITV (Spanish MOT) because the dial does not have KPH, they say that the digital display does not matter, the dial can KPH or KPH and MPH but not just MPH.

Looks like I need to change the instrument cluster !!

How did you manage to get a Spanish car with mph? If you bought a British car for Spain.... Why? Wouldn't a Spanish car be a better option?

I previously owned a grey import motorcycle that had a KPH only speedo. To get through MOT I purchased a clear overlay with MPH markers that was stuck over the speedo. I can't imagine anyone manufactures one for the yeti but you may be able to get one custom made/printed. I imagine it would be a lot cheaper than an instrument cluster change. Check that it would pass Spanish MOT rules first.

The car is British (RHD) I previously owned an Octavia (UK again) which I just sold in the UK it had done 235000 miles most of that in Spain so I do not care which side the stearing wheel is.

The cost of second hand cars in Spain is very high, my car is 4 years old and if I could find one in Spain with about the same spec, I would be paying about 5000€ more, also the condition of mine is like new, cars in Spain tend ( not always ) to get a bit knocked about.

I am hoping to get a stick-on dial but it needs to go under the glass. I would like to know what VW group hope to achieve by only having MPH or KPH.

Then I suggest they are talking rubbish!

Go to a local Skoda dealer and look at the dash of that market's Yeti. It has the same speedo as mine and all other Yeti's produced. Ditto several other models in the VAG range.

I don't think that will be the case - a Spanish etc. Yeti will have a speedo indicating KPH and not MPH so they will not be the same.

This is the problem that Clive has, the ITV will not accept the small KPH display and I can understand that. It is only meant as a help when driving on the continent and is not the main indicator of speed.

A full digital display, that can be switched between MPH and KPH wouldn't be an issue though. On my Tiger 1050 motorcycle the speed is only shown as a digital display and can be switched between MPH and KPH.

Thats right Spanish Speedos only have KPH, I did ask about having a large digital display but they say if there is a dial it must have KPH, no dial no problem but I have a dial and it only has MPH, so problem.

My apologies. You are right.

However, I would still be looking very carefully at a Spanish market Yeti to see EXACTLY what they have.
