DELL X5 and Buffalo CF Card

Featured Replies

OK, not for me per se, though i've tried....

Dell Axim X5, Xscale processor.

OS is PocketPC2002.

Now in theory, according to my own usage (on a Toshiba Esomething and an Ipaq HX4700) it should run out of the box with the POcketPC2002 series devices, and with a small hack, run on the later stuff too. I hacked it and it worked with the Ipaq, no problem.

Original drivers are there for SH3, SH4 and MIPS chips.

The card in question is a Buffalo WL12-CF-S11.

Like i said, in theory, it should work, but, as I'm carp with tech support over the phone, i'm throwing it open to all our resident techies to hopefully resolve the issue for one of our members....

Joe, do you know which chipset it is?

I bought a real cheap "Symbol" Wireless CF card for my Axim X5 and it works (as you've seen) fine on the "Socket card" drivers. Normally the "Socket" cards are really expensive, but Symbol use the same chipset and sell a lot cheaper so maybe worth a try :)

Cheers for all your help so far Joe, you've been great.

But alas I am a technical ****tard, and haven't got a clue. I downloaded all the drivers to the X5 but when I open them I get the "this file is not compatible with this device" or similar message...

Ah well, sure someone will come up with the goods. Otherwise Joe, you maybe receiving a Jiffy bag with an X5 and a CF card in it...

Thanks again Joe! - the next pint is on ME!

Prism/2

the problem seems to be that the only drivers i've been able to find are for Arm MIPS and Samsung SH3/SH4 chips rather than the Intel Xscale. Now, if the X5 in question was a PocketPC2003 device, he could use the hack i did.

when i stuff it in the 4700, which by all accounts has no driver for the Buffalo, if i ran a small hack based on a Asus Wifi card and then when it said "unrecognised card", enteres PRISMNDS, et voila.......instant wifi.

Alas, trying to sort tom out over the phone is difficult. I'm a man, i use visual more than verbal.

Perhaps it would be good if I could "aquire" a more modern OS :rubchin:
