Help! octavia vrs 2002 auq misfiring on low rpm!

Featured Replies

Hello my name is daniel and i live in sweden

I have a Skoda Octavia VRS -2002,the car has a civinco piggyback box in it and 2,5" exhaust after the cat so the car have about 225hp

I left it to a big Volkswagen workshop here in sweden about a week ago to replace the ignition coils on the warranty.

Before it was submitted  the car went okay it could wander on idling when the car was cold only the  the first startup,

but when you drove with the car  it went great no problems whatsoever.

When I came, to pick the car up   after the ignition coil change, it snatches  and hacks at low revs, mostly when starting  in first gear but also in 2nd and 3rd gear.

On the  low revs around 1000-1500 rpm.

the car is very thirsty now as well, it drinks about 1litre gas in 10 kilometer driving in 90-110kmh on the freeway and about 1,5 litre gas per 10 kilometer if you drive it in the city

So I went back and the mechanic connected a computer in the car but found no errors that could be caused by something they did, he said,  the car was  without the engine running when he checked the error codes on the computer,

only the ignition was on!

He said I should replace the spark plugs for they are not visible on the data if they are bad, so i then bought new spark plugs NGK pfr6q and mounted in, but there was no difference in how the car went.

Now, a week later I called them back and said you have to fix my car so that it atleast goes as it did before !!

The car was presented to you and did well and when I get it back, it goes worse and misfires though you changed the ignition coil,

so then I had to go back again with the car and this time the mechanic followed me to the car and plugged in the computer while I was driving,

when he saw the first of the failure a misfire on cylinder 2,  and after we drove a bit it misfired a little harder now it was misfiring on 2nd 3rd and 4th cylinder so the mecanic said drive back it must be  checked in the workshop so we ca see whats wrong

also the intake valve on the pressure pipe came up as a fault code on the car,

do that have anything with the ignition to do ???

is it the blow off valve it means???  that works as it should and it is an original recirculated one a black plastic bosch

and  they noticed that the hose to the crankcase ventilation was split, but it was apparently only affect the idle they said.

So it would not have anything to do with the misfiring.

This is whats done so far

1 they have changed the crankcase ventilation hose

2 they have tested the ignition coils and its nothing wrong with them.

3 They also made compression test on the engine and it was no fault there either.

4 new sparkplugs

5Now it seems the only misfire is on  cylinder 2 even when they shifted the ignition coils from the other cylinders it was misfiring only on cylinder 2

is there anyone here who knows what this could be due to ??

best regards from daniel in sweden

If the misfire is not moving around when you move the coils, then you may have a faulty fuel injector. Have you tried it with the piggyback box disconnected at all?.

hi man thanks for responding,  no i havent. The car is still in the volkswagen workshop.

but there is three diffrent tune cards that you can switch with, one is the original card with that in the car runs  like it does original, and  there is one economic card and one sport card with either one of them in the box the car is alot faster

so now it has the original card in the box because the volkswagen workshop wanted to to see  how it goes original.

i have tested all the cards and it still misfires on all the cards , but its only now after they installed the new coils

before the coil change the only roblem the car had  was that the idle wandered a little bit on the first uppstart when the engine was realy cold..  but not even 100rpm it was just noticeble if you looked realy close on the rpm

The coil wiring on these 1.8t engines can get quite brittle near the connector plugs to the coils due to their exposure to heat, they may want to give that area another look in case they have done something silly.

yeah i asked about that and the  only thing he  said was, we have checked the ignition coils and there is no fault there

but will call them tomorrow and ask about that again,

hopefully they will also check the injectors  tomorrow

Do you know if the computer system they are using is capable of real time logging of the running of the car?. Some basic info on ignition firing voltages and fuel air ratios may give some pointers on this.

hi no i cant say that i know that,

but its the biggest volkswagen, vag dealer and workshop in my town, that handles volkswagen audi  skoda and seat to i think

so i hope that they can figure this problem out. its so irritating because the car ran fine when i left it there the first time before  the ignition coils were changed

hopefully they will give me some news tomorrow

now the problem seems solved the workshop have disconnected the civinco piggyback box and the  car runs fine now  they say

i spoke with the volkswagen  workshop today and the mechanic said that it has to be something wrong with my MAF

but wouldnt the car go bad on boost when  the civinco box was installed then to ???
