1.8 TSI Oil usage

Featured Replies

I'll keep this thread updated if it develops.

The 1.8Tsi in my Scout has been using just under half a litre of oil roughly every 800 miles since new.

I usually reset the odo and check at 800 miles. Yesterday as I started I had a low oil level light warning. Checked the car on the flat and it was around minimum so topped up.

Car had done 420 miles since last top up.

Fingers crossed this is not the start of a problem as I have another 18 months 2 years before I can get my Superb !!

She is just 5 years old and done just under 31k

'Acceptable' limit (though clearly nonsense to anyone sane) to Skoda and the rest of VAG is 0.5ltr per 1000km (621 miles).

Mine was above this and the approved used warranty eventually paid for the recognised fix of new pistons, rings, conrods etc at about £4K. Not done huge mileage since the repair, but I don't think it has used any oil yet.

I assume you are not under any extended warranty, but may still be worth having an oil consumption test performed and impress on Skoda how unhappy you are about the situation. Some people are still getting decent goodwill contributions to the tensioner failures at 5 years old I believe, and I think the piston/ring design error is just as bad.

Yeah I'll give it another top up just to make sure it's not a fluke. Not under extended warranty but with a full dealer history, only 31000 miles plus this is my 4th new Skoda I would be very disappointed in Skoda if the engine went tits up and they were not very, very helpful.

The plan is to buy a new Superb in a couple of years. Would Skoda really be bothered to lose a loyal Customer, £35k plus sale and years of servicing though ?

I've done nearly 6000 miles in the '07 Octy vRS and it gone through a litre of top up oil.  This is exactly the same oil consumption as my old Alfa ! :notme:  Total mileage on the car is now 55000.
