Diy Towbar fitting

Featured Replies

Hi all recently picked up a witter towbar for my estate for a meager 21 quid, but when i had the bumper off and nosed about underneath it looked asif it will be a chore to fit as it seems the bolts go under the exhaust heatshield?

Anyone shed any light on this or any one done it diy and can offer any suggestions I would be grateful

Dan

You do need to drop the heat shield, but not necessary remove it.

If you've got the lights out and bumper off, you've done the bulk of it and the hard bits.

It just looked like there wouldnt be enough room to get the bolts through with the exhaust in situ i'll have another look tomorrow as i would prefer to get it fitted before car goes in the bodyshop

Dan

Undo the exhaust hanger as well and you'll find enough room in there.

Is this a 7 pin or 13 pin socket that you're fitting?

I'd be interested to see how you get on :)

I have actually acquired a full 13pin factory towbar prep wiring loom from another octy i was recently breaking, but ive misplaced the pictures i took on how it was wired up, so not too sure if ill be able to use this now, may ned to buy one of the bypass relays and fit a universal wiring kit

Dan

Does your car have ESP and parking sensors?

I thought the point of the factory kit is the car knows it has a trailer attached.

Yeah it does, and im not sure what the point of it is to be honest just took it off the car i was breaking as i thought surely factory wiring will be tidier and better then a bypass system

It is. One had both and won't go for anything other than genuine (or OE) kit in the future.
