VRS SMIC intake temps - FMIC temps.

Featured Replies

I have fitted a fmic but being the tit that i am i forgot to do some logs with the standard side mount, so i have nothing to compare them too. :notme:

Does any body have any logs with the smic handy.

And for those curious Ive fitted an ebay special seat sport with 70mm core with some homebrew ebay pipes.

The highest temp i logged was around  74 `C after 5 good power runs through the gears with an ambient temp of 23`C.

I would also be intrested to see any logs with a genuine SS or Darkside to compare.

That's fairly high those temp figures, what turbo are you running?

I know when I was mapping mune, we logged the temps and max I got was 34°C and that was pulling hard in 3rd/4th and 5th gssr to the redline on a GTB2260 pushing 2.5bar, it was however cooler roughly 15°C

I know after a couple of hard runs people same 90°C+ on SMIC.

It'd be interesting to find at what intake temps the car "should" go into limp mode? I know on my side mount running 185bhp you could get it to drop into limp mode dead easy on a trackday (10 mins max before it backed right off) and even did it on a flat out autobahn run on a cool evening in Germany.

That intercooler is pony.

With a proper fmic max i seen in mid summer on a rolling road (less airflow) was 36 degree's

I managed to limp mode my stock smic twice on backroad blasts :o

With the stock smic you seem to get one run through the gears, then you can feel the power tail off as its heatsoaked

Agree with made, the standard smic is pathetic. I never got mine into limp on but after a few WOT blasts it noticeable slowed down.

Also from what I've seen fmics are in the high 20s mid 30s.

I have the Darkside kit and if I have time I'll try and get some logs of in take temp.

Even if the outside ambient temperature was 30c that would be a difference of 44c on your cooler, sounds quite a lot to me for a front mount!

That is truly an appalling delta T (51C) for a Seat Sport part, it sounds more like a shocking Chinese copy. Pipes don't matter so much as long as they're airtight and of the right diameter. Get a genuine Seat Sport part, then you'll see the difference, stick it back on ebay where it came from.

Agreed, the delta T is huge, very nearly as bad as the standard SMIC.

I used 57mm Ali pipe, and it is indeed an eBay special intercooler.

Looks like I'll end up ditching it for a standard seat sport item at this rate.

And it is a standard KKK turbo running a faboka map.

In this weather it take less then 20 seconds for the fmic to hit 90c

On my mapped pd100 I was getting temps between 40-45

Then after fitting a tx autosport fmic kit I've not seen over 36 since and the 36 was on a warm evening around back roads

I've recorded over 80°inlet temps on a rally stage with the exterior of the cooler reaching 90+ that's with a water spray system spraying it too. really takes the edge off it lol. road use rarely see'a it over 30 tho
