4year service

Featured Replies

i was recently charged £ 450 for my fourth year service on my Yeti 1.4 TSI....it needed the basic service including brake fluid change....is this price a fair price ?......i waited in the waiting room for 3 hours as two other cars were before me so i suppose they worked on my car for one hour only. They failed to detect a sticking tailgate problem which means the tailgate will not always open....my own view on the problem could possibly be that the rubber seal is cheap quality thus adhering itself to the body as the car is hardly used

Rub a little talcum powder on the rubber seal, the oils in the talc lubricate and preserve the rubber.

This also works to stop seals sticking in winter. I came across this in a Porsche manual.

£450 for 1 hours work???

Have you an itemised bill we can see?

It will have been an oil change, the brakes (if you asked for it specifically) and then a whole load of ticks in the 'not needed' box for the optional items. VAG 'major' services are a total rip off.

Yeah i do have an itemised bill, will find it, off the top of my head think the labour was over £250......and the tailgate sticking could also be faulty mechanism....repeated opening after initial unlock seems ok.

£109 for a battery service!!!

A new one would surely cost less??

The Menu pricing is only for cars over 3 years old. They can charge more for newer ones!

They can, but the good ones don't!

I would like to see exactly what was included in this service.

mot...................................54.85
annual service................139.98
brake fluid replace ...........49.99
labour subtotal...........................244.82

parts................................89.41
engine oil.........................42.00
environmental charge........4.50

total.............................. 380.73
vat...................................65.18
invoice total .........................................445.91

So it was about £230 for an oil change, then. I'm curious what the £90 +vat of 'parts' is.

I think it's a rip off that the quoted price of the service doesn't actually include anything they change.

"waiting room for 3 hours as two other cars were before me so i suppose they worked on my car for one hour only".

Lum, If this is true, I would be straight onto the Workshop manager /dealer principle & ask what on earth is going on.

This looks incredable.

So they charged you £244,82 + vat Labour....

Sorry to say this but, In my opinion that bill looks like they are taking the mickey.

I dislike nocking other dealers/workshops on price, but this looks like a rip of. IMO.

parts................................89.41   SO What were the parts?

The MOT should take approx 45 mins alone!

I guess it's not unreasonable for companies to have to charge for hidden costs such as London area rates etc....otherwise they would be effectively giving a discount to city customers and be less profitable than town garages.

I won't be going back there next year for sure.

If you paid £49.99 for brake fluid change, why are they charging you £8.04 for brake fluid in the Parts section?

Check if the pollen filter is actually new, its easy enough. If its not, you may be able to get a fair chunk of that money back (as it casts doubt on any of the work being done). Especially if all the work only took an hour.

Please let us others in London know which dealer we should approach with caution!

Because the £49 is the labour charge!

I note the

I would consider that dishonest since Skoda advertise that price for a 'Brake Fluid Change' with the comment: "The price you see is the price you’ll pay." Which it clearly isn't if it doesn't include the parts used.

http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/default/

I note the footnotes say these prices are only available if car has been set up for the fixed servicing regime not for the flexible scheme.

The skoda schedule quotes £49 for brake fluid INC VAT. VAT seems to have been added on again.

I won't be going back there next year for sure.

That last item on the parts list says it all, you've been screwed!

Points for clarification;

1. Why have you been charged for engine oil and oil filter when it's included in the Service?

2.Why have they charged you for the pollen filter in the Parts breakdown when it is included in the Service?

3.They have charged you for an annual Minor Service (£139), surely it should have been a Major Service (Minor, Major, Minor, Major ad infinitum), in which case the spark plugs would have been included in the price, or did you ask for a Minor Service?

Clearly not a menu priced set up. What dealer did the work?
