I am thinking of buying for my oct tdi mk1 a set of spider vrs 17" alloys the tyres are 225 45 17" do they fit ok with out rubbing.

Plenty of people run 225/45 on spiders including me with no issues. More grippy in the corners too. Only time you might get rubbing is if highly lowered but on a standard tdi you'll have no probs.
