Since 2002 I have always used "Premium" fuel, in my Seat Leon Turbo's (Petrol) I always used V-Power Unleaded and when I got my first diesel in 2010 I found that BP Ultimate Diesel seemed to make the engine run smoother than V-Power Diesel..

So, when I got the Superb last year I carried on with BP Ultimate...

I have noticed that compared to the Seat Exeo the Superb seems to regenerate the DPF more often and the car is doing the same driving time/speeds etc... If you read the book I would say that it sounds normal, Skoda say every 200-500 miles it will regenerate... I have never (touch wood) had a light on, and always seem to know when it is "mid regeneration", increased RPM etc so I just give it a 10 min blast above 2000rpm and all is back to normal...

I though maybe a change of fuel?

So my question... This will only apply to "Premium" fuel users....

Should I continue with BP Ultimate? or try V-Power Nitro+ diesel?

Any comments would be appreciated :)

I cover 900 miles per week in my Superb and my priority for fuel type is based on convenience so I tend to use a mix of supermarket / standard branded / premium branded fuel.

I can't say I've ever noticed any difference between the various types over the years.

More recently I have favoured Shell standard diesel and when I changed the fuel filter last week it was remarkably clean for 18 months 40,000 miles use.

I would imagine since you cover low mileage any premium branded fuel will suit. Is there much difference between Shell and BP premium fuels?

Not sure really, I think that they are manufactured different, BP is a conventional process diesel where the old V-Power was a GTL fuel (Gas to liquid) so I suppose not actual diesel... Well that's what I managed to find searching the net :)

I guess the best test will be to run several tanks of Shell and monitor the DPF regens compared to BP.
