sills....

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just giving the mrs' car a wash and got down under the sills which were pretty dirty and black. I noticed that the silver paint is over something quite soft and waxy but you can see some of this dull white coming through- is this normal?

Some pics...

Any recommendations on what to plonk on here? Some waxoyl/underseal, perhaps, or don't I need to bother?

Thanks

D

It could be a wax under seal maybe or a joint sealer that stays flexible

Use some cleaner and a stiff toothbrush and clean it off, (the dirt) to have it looking cleaner and tidier,

then put some protective car wax/Polish on.

Do not use anything too aggressive to clean it, but some Detergent will be OK, there is no bare metal, and there should be no breaks in the sealer to allow corrosion (rust), rinse well.

Do not go sealing over the factory finish even with Waxoyl, as it should be checked at Dealership Services and marked in the Service Book or Online as Body Checked for the Panel Corrosion & Paint Warranties

Point out at service time that the Body Colour Paint is not covering the Stone Chip Protection & Sealer.

I've just finished cleaning and polishing it to acquaint myself with the scratches and stone chips ;-) I'd already cleaned it with some car shampoo and a brush then gone over it with some poorboys wax and not buffed it (what I normally do with sills) to leave a good coating.

It's just been serviced so I'll send the dealer some pics in an email

Checked some other cars on dealer forecourt and none have paint missing.

Incomplete job from the factory?
