I recently went in a friends Leon FR diesel, and found his sound generator was much louder than mine (diesel manual vRS estate).

My question is how loud is your sound generator. The difference between the two was massive and I my initial thought is that mines not quite right.

Where about is it under the bonnet I'll have a look see if it's broken or something. I like the noise, I rarely put it in sport mode so I enjoy the noise difference.

Under the plastic shround at the bottom of the windscreen wipers, it's right in the centre.

Mines pretty loud in Sport Mode to be fair, maybe a little too loud at times. I think (providing it isn't faulty) that the volume can be changed via VCDS/similar electronic-software-trickery. Maybe ask your dealer to have a look or find someone with VCDS? 

 

Not sure what you'd see if you looked at the unit itself, i'd assume that if it's making a noise then it is at least plugged in; other than that not sure what you'd be able to look at or fix. Plus if you fiddle with it and it turns out that it is broken then it might void it's warranty. Personally, i'd ask your dealer to have a quick look first and ask to compare it with a like for like demo of theirs.

 

Also, I understand the new (I think MY16) cars have an option in the mode selection to change the volume of the sound generator....will be asking if the software can be updated and this be enabled next time I have a service. Would be a very useful feature to have as I like the responsiveness of the throttle in sport mode but not always the volume of the sound generator.

Just traded in an FR diesel for a MY16 VRS. Even in its loudest setting the one in the vrs is far quieter. Nicer sound too. I disabled the Leon's one as it was way too loud - the constant motorway drone drove me nuts.

You can choose levels in the individual mode - sport, normal or eco (presumably this means off).

Mine was intrusive in sport mode (which is exclusively used). Like FREEDOM, mine is also unplugged now.

I have mine set to individual with it on. Love the sound. Want it louder. I am 50
