Laptop keyboard?

Featured Replies

Just a quick question re the laptop keyboards. Do the keys (buttons) pop off from above if I lever them up or are they only removed by taking the machine apart?

I had a sticky 'o' key now it's a sticky 'p' key so something has moved under the key, could be dirt has got in under there.

It's an HP laptop, about 4 years old.

I had that the other week Mick on my old Lenovo.  It was one key one time you turned it on then the next time it would be another and not necessarily next to the last one.  It was quite random and then for some reason now it doesn't happen at all.  Having said all that I don't know if you can just pop the keys off or not.

You can usually pop them off depending on the design of them.

They often have a little clip/hinge underneath that can be quite delicate.

Could search your model number online to see if there are any guides?

Thanks both, think I've just anwered my own question.

Just googled for a youtube vid and got it straight away.

It shows a keyboard the same as mine the answer is yes they do pop off (on clips) by just levering up carefully.

I'll give it a go, but for now everything is working normal. That toast crumb must have moved :peek:

They've usually got an odd little scissor mechanism underneath. Can be a real b1tch to get back on and are easily broken.

Can of canned air might be a safer option in the future.

I've got an old IBM kicking around with sticky keys. i did take one off to clean underneath and it was a pig to put back. So I'd second the can of air,or perhaps a good shake whilst using a Hoover with a small brush over the keys.

+3 for can of air with tube fitted blown in from the side while tipping laptop about 45 degrees.
