Text notifications

Hi all,

I'm having issues with my iPhone 6 and the Amundsen system in my Octy. They are connected via bluetooth fine and I can make and receive phone calls and stream music over bluetooth but I don't get alert sounds when I receive a text or Whatsapp message. I can read my text messages via the Amundsen unit but the only reason I know there is a message is because the phone has vibrated in my pocket. I don't even get the keyboard click sound when I'm sitting waiting for swmbo whilst she's at the shops.

I've checked the settings on both the iPhone and the Amundsen unit and have even resorted to RTFM but can't find any setting in either that will allow these tones.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance

Duncan

Same for me (iPhone 6 plus) but like it that way as it stops any temptation to read whilst driving or see what the notification is.

Don't think mine has ever done this. Possibly a safety feature as they may not want you distracted by notifications?

Another reason the Apple Watch is a god send  :D

Sorry to hijack but do you have any idea how to stop the watch tapping you every time it gives you a direction on the Maps app if you are using it for Sat Nav? It's handy for a junction you need to take on the motorway as you get a little tap on the wrist to take the turnoff but if you're navigating around a town centre the tapping on the wrist every 2 seconds is really irritating.

Sorry James, I have no idea. The maps app is probably the only app I've not used all that much yet. Plan on giving it ago on the trip to Somerset next week though and see how it goes.

I do believe Watch OS 2.0 should bring greater features and I've heard people have raised issues with certain aspects of the maps functionality so perhaps that may give us that option.

I was going to ask the same.

Is it possible on a MY15 Bolero unit?

I was going to ask the same.

And me!

I can hear the text notification coming over on Amundsen but not sure how to access it hands free

I don't believe the MIB1 Bolero or Amundsen units (MY15 cars) have the facility to read text messages as it was a new feature on the MIB2 units. I have a MIB1 Amundsen in my MY15 O3 vRS and nowhere does it mention text messages.

To be honest, I wouldn't want to be reading text off the screen whilst driving anyway, even if I did have that function available. I get round this by simply asking Siri to read new messages out for me which are then announced over the car speakers. Not only does this also work for e-mails but I can even reply to messages by speaking when prompted by Siri after the messages have been read out.

Works brilliantly and is much safer IMO.

It's basically another distraction when driving. Use with care.

Mine is a MY16 with MIB2, how do I read a text?

I find it terrifying that a driver is lamenting the inability to read his text messages on his entertainment unit.

You can have the MIB2 read the text out. But I don't think it's possible to get alerts, you need to hear from the phone. You can also set up pre programmed replies, eg I'm driving will reply later
