iPhone 4 contract up....now what

Featured Replies

First of all am not really clued up on mobiles...

But basically the contracts run out on me iPhone 4

Looking round I can get some good deals on newer phones for the same money I pay now so fancy switching

The phone I have now though is locked to one network and I hear differing results on google on how to unlock it

Ideally I would like to sell it and get some money back from it but how to do it without compromising all my details etc?

Send an unlock request to your current network provider.

As above just keep it if you like it

Unlocking is about £20 when I last did it

If you decide to keep it, negotiate a PAYG sim for a discounted price as you're now, in effect, using your own phone and not a 'rented' one.

Yup or a 30day rolling sim free contract until something you like pops up.

Get it unlocked, and get a giff gaff SIM

30 day rolling contract on whichever tariff suits your usage.

Best thing I ever did getting out of a contract and going on giff gaff.

If your happy with the phone, keep it.

If not get a second hand handset/nearly new and sell yours

Probably worth 75 quid if it's in decent condition

Transfer all your stuff to your new phone and wipe it... It's easy, or if your staying with iPhones, back up to iTunes and when you sync your new phone it will ask if you want to set up as a new phone or import your stuff from your old one. It's simple :)

I am assuming it will need unlocking if I'm going to sell it?

It is in fair nick but limited with an old iOS version that won't update any further and 8gb which is nowhere near enough

Might look for a new phone altogether on me days off

Just have a look on giff gaff website

You can buy a phone monthly if you want as well

You don't have to unlock your old phone, but it opens the door to more potential buyers if it is, thats all

8gb is really small, and not being able to update to the latest iOS is really going to make your phone virtually worthless Im afraid

I would just get a new phone, on a 30 day rolling tariff (no ties then) and start again

Just think of it as your old phone has served you well over the years, and try and not think of how much it cost initially... tech moves on rapidly these days

Best of luck, whichever handset you choose

Damo

Now you have finished paying for it - it is obsolete; so throw it away and buy a decent Android phone!!   :D

Seriously, how much longer can the non-removable battery last, my wifes spends 90% of its time connected to a powerbank because the battery is on its last legs (2 years old).

My new Xiaomi Red Rice has a 3200mAh removable battery and an octacore cpu for under £100.

(I agree with the Giffgaff bits above though).
