music file types

Awaiting the car,

Just want to know the best way to play music in the fabia mk3?

Ideally, all I want to do is rip everything from all my CD's then slap them onto a 1TB  HDD, and just use that via USB connection. Surely it cant be that simple???? There must be a catch!

What file type is best for playing in the new fabia? Whats the best course of action for ripping all of my cd's?

cheers

SD card is probably the best way to go... Neat and tidy (so no cables as it's hidden away in the Glove box)... I've had no issues with mp3/m4a/flac/wma files.

If you're really into your music then the best file type to use is WAV / FLAC. These file types are what you call lossless. MP3's are lossy which means you lose some of the depth to the sound. Some people claim not to be able to tell the difference, but if you really appreciate your music then you will definitely hear the difference. There is actually a cool little test here: http://test.tidalhifi.com/

The best software I have used for this process is called Exact Audio Copy. The files will be somewhere around 3 - 10 times larger than the mp3 file, so think 30-40mb, rather than 3-12mb. The quality however will speak for itself!

Good luck :)

This is the biggest surprise of the Fabia mark III to me. Plays EVERYTHING! Seriously, even 192Khz 24 bit Flac files (can't tell if it downsamples them 'cos wind/engine noise etc. gets in the way) but the bolero system plays them!

Just copy the lot to your drive, and plug in. Happy listening!

Same with me, I was unsure with it not having a CD player on the audio quality, but flac's, wma, wav and mp3's have all worked perfectly producing some decent sound too for stock speakers.

Personally I'd just get a 128GB SD card, chuck it in the glove box and forget about it rather than having the hard disk in the front USB all the time.

Good point, might be a case of experimenting. I checked the manual and nothing states a capacity limit.

I believe the max SD you can have is 32gb

It depends on the bitrate the files are encoded at. MP3s at 256kbps as an average bitrate. That's 1.9 MB per minute of music, so that works out at around 287 hours of music for a 32GB card.. The actual figure may vary depending on the quality of the original files but that's a typical figure.

That's a disappointing, has anyone tried and tested a higher capacity?
