Interior light removal

Featured Replies

Hi all, does anyone know how to remove the rear interior lights on an estate so I can fit some LED bulbs, I've already swapped the front interior ones over as well as the rear number plate lights but I can't seem to get the lenses off the interior light housings.

I've also fitted LED bulbs to the DRLs and chrome indicator bulbs front and rear, they look so much cleaner and the DRLs look like oem LED lights now.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm not used to such luxuries as rear interior lights having come from a MkII Monte Tech hatch!!!

No idea but any pics?  :D

Mine look the same ones as my old Passat had - they prise out from either side - then there's a little levering to get the inner part free of the headlining.

Anyway  - the plastic spring clips are on the two narrow sides.  Be firm but gentle!

[Edit]  - just looking on Haynes for the Passat - the instruction is "Twist and remove the combined bulb and holder"

Will this work on the rear lights on the panoramic roof? There are two lights on either side of the glass with a rocker type switching mechanism.

Yep, its same on my non-pano combi -- and looks like virtually same part on my old Passat..

Cheers guys, I'll have another go as soon as I get the chance, just didn't want to go in all hamfisted and break something when there may be a simple way of removal.

This is great thanks!

And could somebody (who knows) please tell us what types of bulb you need for:

1) the front interior lights (both of the reading lights and the central one)

2) the rear interior lights

Gazbull... Which types of bulbs did you buy and from where? I usually use Horizon LED but have no idea what types are needed for the interior!

I buy all my bulbs from EBay, I just search for canbus error free led bulbs and try and buy from UK sellers.

The front two map reading lights are 5w5 and the others are 36mm festoon types. The rear numberplate bulbs are 5w5 fitment as well.

So all together we need:

5W5 x 2 for interior

36mm festoon x 3 for the interior

5W5 x 2 for the license plate

Correct?

Sorry did you mean W5W?

Yeah, sorry, I did mean W5W, I was trying to go from memory, it looks like the rear interior lights are festoon type but until I remove them I can't be 100% certain!!!

Haha understood! Then I'll hold off from ordering any for now!

I was just about to change the rear interior lights in my SEL Fabia when I noticed the "0" end of the light faces the front of the car.

In the you tube video the "0" faces the rear end the electrical connection faces the front.

I don't want to lift up the wrong end. My car is fitted with the panoramic roof but I can't see how this would make a difference.

Any suggestions which end I should attack first?

John
