Skoda Superb In 2005 Top Gear Survey

Featured Replies

Just been looking at the 2005 Top Gear survey, and the Superb is a new entry in 4th place. Its weakest attribute was the handling with 3 out of 5 stars but really good on everything else. Its no suprise to me,I am now on my 2nd Superb (2.8 tiptronic elegance),and love the car to bits.Im sure many others on this forum echo my feelings.Well done skoda!!!!

ditto - 2.8 tiptronic Elegance

John

2.5 TDi, but can fully appreciate this cracking car

Makes you proud to own a Skoda doesnt it?

Must be quite a few around to get onto the survey.

Supprising you dont see many... they really are exclusive

Good to have all three cars in the top 10.... wonder where yeti will end up when it comes on

Only 50 needed to get them in the survey, which is why there's so many low-volume cars in the top 10 ;)

ah ha... low volumn is (usually) better built hence thurther up the top of survey.

Yes it does. I worried a little about the image thing when I got my Octy but I don't even think about it now and TBH i'm now even a bit smug about being a Skoda driver too. :D

When I pull up beside a similarly priced car by another manufacturer, I always feel a bit sorry for person behind the wheel .They really don't know what they are missing and it's all because they couldn't see past the badge.

That's assuming they couldn't see past the badge. ;) I looked at Skoda when I replaced my car and was very disappointed with what I could get for the money....

Superb is an excellent car.Always been peeved when they say handling is a bit 'wallowy'.

It is meant to be a refined cruiser type car,not a rock hard sports set up.

Interesting .....the Deisel Turbo'd "TDI" is a 2.5, The naturally aspurated Petrol version without a Turbo is a 2.8. What have you actually got?

I wanted a car that handled well' date=' was enjoyable to drive, well made (doesn't let in water or always have condensation on the inside of the windows), reliable and economical, with plenty of go and lots of toys. Nothing in the Skoda stable satisfied that criteria.....

Chris[/quote']

Confused. Why did you buy a ford then!

Which Skodas have you been looking at anyway? some furby's seem to have a bit of a condensation problem granted but there is plenty in the Skoda range to meet all of your requirements and more. You musn't have looked hard enough.

Sorry its the 2.8 petrol,I had the 100tdi before that.

My point was if you get 50 happy owners, it will skew the output of the survey. Likewise if you get 50 unhappy owners, it'll be at the bottom. Much better to use the same number of respondents for each car for a fairer comparison ;)

Which one should I have bought then? ;)

Chris

I wish'd the survey was this week :(

My Superb has brought me nothing but dissapointment, the single most un-reliable car I have ever owned! and i've owned a lot of Italian cars!!

It's such a shame as I can see the fantastic car that hides underneath occasionaly. I always say i'll never buy another Skoda but if I were ever to buy another it would either be a 2.5 Superb or the new OctyII VRS Diesel, whet else could I get for the same money?

Which one should I have bought then? ;)

Chris

Superb probably although the 2.0 TDi Octy II IMO is a good compromise between drivability and comfort. Not sure which variant of the TDCi you have but I reckon the 140bhp VAG 2.0 TDI would be a pretty good match for the TDCi ST. If you check the superchips test results on their website you will see that on a rolling road test in standard form, the VAG 2.0TDi typically actually only looses 3 bhp to the 155 bhp 2.2 ST diesel engine.

I'm not saying the Mondeo is a bad car in fact it's a great car. All i'm saying is I ruled it out when I was looking for a car because for the diesel version within my budget, the spec I could afford was pretty basic and couldn't touch the Octy II.

Whereas, within my budget, the Mondeo fulfilled all my criteria and left the Octy I and Superb in the dust in terms of handling, reliability, build quality, toys, power, etc, etc. Doesn't mean I feel sorry for people with similarly priced cars though when I see them, which was really the point of my post. Skoda's are not the best cars in the world ;)
