Rusting alloy

Featured Replies

hi all

not the alloy itself but on the inside bit.(dunno whats it's called)

its not terribly clear on here but is affecting all 4 wheels.

is it normal? its a pain in the ass to get to to clean off. if i do decide to get it off what can i do to prevent it recurring?

thanks in advance

Its the wheel hub

They all do this

I applied some Hammerite to mine and never had to touch them again

Its the hub, actually part of the brake disc there. Ask your dealer if they can paint it, as your car is a 2015 it shouldn't be happening so soon.

Not to be picky - but isn't that the brake disc?  it does happen on all cars .  I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Like Chris said its normal. The brake discs only have a thin coating on them so they form surface rust pretty quickly. Either live with it or pop the wheels off and paint the bell of the disc. Don't paint the surface the wheel mounts to though.

cheers guys

i know its only surface rust and will come off but it is pretty unsightly to be fair. the dealer owes me a favour i might chance my arm with them! failing that will take the advice above.

thanks peeps.

I would keep an eye on it as others on the forum have been having corrosion issues with their rear discs (see link below). Although it is dependant on your driving style and usage your rear disc does seem to have a lot of wear for a '15 plate car.

I very much doubt youll get the result you require

ALL Cast Iron Hubs do this

Just get yourself some Silver Smooth Hammerite and paint them.

Its very easy and the results will last for a couple of years or more

I have the same issue on our DS4 (14 Reg)..I will be doing this in the coming month or so
