that substance is this? someone can tell me?

Featured Replies

I have a post already talking about the problems of my felicia, but I opened this again because I did not know how to put these photos in the old post.

Reviewing felicia can think lifting the lid of the oil and I find this substance in the top and it seems that this engine within spitting out.

There was also water, so I imagine that Felicia has problems with head gasket, I'm right. for more information if they want in the post "tuning Felicia 1.3" I put my car problems

Short trips and overdue oil change. Lots of condensate in that

Wrong. That is way over condensation. That is oil / coolant emulsion from a blown head gasket. His engine got overheated (110 C) from a bad cooling system.

Ismael, you are looking at an expensive repair job. You have to:

  • remove the cylinder head
  • check it for cracks
  • resurface it (most probably it is warped)
  • check the engine block for straightness
  • check the valves and the valve stem seals for proper sealing
  • install new head gasket

For now go on with measuring the compression and if possible do a cylinder leak down test. The latter will tell you exactly what is damaged.

Do not drive the car like that. You risk destroying the engine totally.

Hi Ricardo, you'd tell me how much it would cost a repair of this kind here in Rep. Dominican?

It can vary between 5,000 and 9,000 peso. It depends on costs for the machining of the cylinder head. Ask local car shops, search online, etc.

Note to self! Read other topic! I'd make enquiries first though before I dished out the funds that the above is suggesting you spend!

I know it is hard to admit you are wrong. You don't have to be sour. "The above" knows better the status of his engine from another topic. In case you are worried for the money of a Dominican Republic citizen, rest assured, he will not fix his engine in my garage. He lives 170 miles away from me. But you are welcome to make a trip to his home and wipe that 'condensation' for free.

Read what I typed? It's says I'd make enquiries, not him.

I am not sour and I am very glad that you are right. I said I had not read the other post. Is there anything else ?

OK, we're good.

thank you both for your concern, tomorrow I'll go to the shop to see what they tell me, if I find someone trustworthy'll have to take the car to Santiago at 50km more or less where I have a trusted mechanic

Ok. Keep us updated. In case your mechanic allows you to stay with him while repairing the cylinder head, please take photos of each step with a decent camera. I am sure thet people on this forum will like to see what involves such job. Remember, do not just replace the head gasket without measuring and machining the cylinder head. You will regret it because the coolant will mix again with oil. The preparation of the cylinder head is vital. Putting a new head gasket is the last operation.

Hello again. Well I'll tell you ...
I left the workshop and Felicia turns out to have the deformed head and rotten, so the entire power loss etc, etc

I have not posiso be in the process of dismantling the felicia but leave a picture of the condition of the stock.

Now my head are looking for a second hand as I recommend not repaired in this state. I have been told that you can fill but that does not guarantee good service.

And I will say in a few days.

Yeah... as expected... the head is damaged beyond repair. Based on corrosion extent, the main cause of failure is bad coolant (it became acid) and cooling system not flushed properly. That is a lesson for all of us.

Keep us posted. And remember, a second hand cylinder head must be checked for cracks and straightness too. The garage should give you a 5,000 miles guarantee at least.

ok thank you very much for the advice. For now they are behaving quite well in the workshop.

It's a shame that whoever had this cohe has not given due maintenance and now find one with this disaster. I finally continue to report how this ends.

Don't forget to check and repair what caused the overheating problem. The cooling system. If the cylinder head was so badly corroded, I would suspect everything metallic: the water pump, the radiator, the engine block (!), the heater. If you don't do that properly, the head gasket will blow up again.

Thanks again Ricardo. I'm going to change the radiator with a new one, the water pump is also new is the change a few weeks ago so I hope that Felicia is nearly like new for that side.

many thanks again for your interest

greetings to all again:

Today I have delivered the Felicia. They have done a great job, the car has more power, better sound etc, etc.

I've changed thermostat, radiator, water pump and now another problem arises me.

By putting the air conditioning and it starts to cool the vehicle starts to heat up and temperaratura.

Any idea why this can happen ?. If I put the maximum air temperature rises faster.

sorry for mistakes (temperaratura)

I post again

Hello everyone again:

In the previous post had mentioned that after the major repair with the butt, change radiator, thermostat etc., the car warmed me to put the air conditioning.

I've been shooting a couple of days with short distances and has not been rewarmed. and now I've come a long way since the air all the time and has kept the temperature at 90.

The truth is that it seems that the only problem has been fixed.

Still cambiare the temperature sensor to be quieter.

Thank you all for the help and I hope this post has helped someone else.

A greeting and special thanks to Ricardo and Leonel.

Congratulations for saving the car! What you thought to be a carburetor issue, it was in fact a major repair. The previous owner did not care about proper maintenance. But now you have a good car. In case the engine still gets too warm and the radiator fan(s) run non-stop below 30C outside or at speeds over 100 km/h, there is a problem unsolved with the cooling system. Watch the level of the coolant daily in the morning.
