Advice on lights

Featured Replies

Hi chaps I have a 2005 mk2 ambient estate with no fog lights fitted just the black plastic light panel can anyone advise me on what is needed to fit a pair of fog lights ?

I.e wiring, switch ,coast, and how hard to fit my self?

Thanks kev.

You'll need the foglights, a new headlight switch and probably some coding.

I doubt the wiring will be there behind the bumper so that will need sorting too.

The lights and switch will be close to £100, the coding (if needed) can be done for free if you find a local member with VCDS.

I guess the hardest part will be the wiring, knowing where to join the foglights to the main loom etc. so that the headlight switch works properly to turn them on and off.

Thanks for reply I had a feeling the wiring wouldn't be there and didn't know I would have to get some coding done may have to put it on the back burner fot now cheers kev.

For me the front fog lights make a big difference to the look of the car. The black plastic blanks make the car look a little dull, low spec, boring etc.

I'd still buy the actual lights and fit them, just leave them unwired.

For the two times a year you actually might use them you won't miss them.

I got foglights for mine before i realised the hassle of fitting them. So i got h8 led bulbs and wired them to the full beam so they atleast come on with full beam doesnt make much diffrence to lighting up the road. But the car does look better with them and i dont like lights fitted but not doing anything.

That may be worth doing I do think they look better than just blanks do the blanks just pop out ?

And what would I have to do to fit the fog lamps?

Cheers kev.

P.s is it difficult to wirire the lamps up to the full beam ?

And would that need coding?

The plastic blanks simply pop off.

Once off you'll see the holes where the fog lights will attach to.

Check out the owners manual, not only do the plastic blanks pop off but the outer portions of the inner grill also pop off to allow access to the foglights (when fitted) to access the bulbs.

After buying the lights it should therefore simply be a case of screwing in the foglights.

Thanks for the help lads,is there a part number I need ?

How do I know if I am ordering the right ones?

Or is it the case that has long has they come off a mk2 they are all the same?

Cheers kev.

There are two different style of front foglights for the non - vRS / Scout MkII Octavia, but they are the same fitment so are interchangeable.

Mike Holroyd will know better than me, he has two MkII Octavia's, one 54 plate and one 08 plate, both with factory fitted foglights but with a slightly different look to the reflector design.

Buy the cheapest set you can find, loads on eBay...

Thanks for the help kev.

Mines is just spliced into the full beam wire going into the headlight plug on the car side i cant remember which pin it is but im sure someone will know. Im not sure how it would work with halogen bulbs in but with the led bulbs i still get the bulb out warning when one of the full beams isnt working.

to wire it up to full beam I would use a relay so the wire from the full beam will act as a switch so you are not drawing any more power from the existing wiring loom.
