Felicia Pickup GTI...

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Ive had many ideas where I would like to go with my pickup, but I'd like to get peoples thoughts / experience on the latest idea:

I have a VW Golf GTI (1993, 2l 8V) engine, with all the ancilleries, complete wiring loom, ECU etc which was originally destined to go into my bay window camper, however I now think the MTDI engine which currently resides in the Skoda would be more appropriate.

So, the GTI engine could be free to fit into the truck. I've had a look and the gear ratios in the Skoda gearbox are very close to the original Golf 'box, the golf engine wiring is almost stand alone so thats easy enough.

Has anyone done (or tried to do) this? Does anyone know if the Skoda engine mounting brackets would fit the GTI engine?

Cheers,

Rich.

As I have been told before, The Skoda mounting brackets only fit the Skoda 1.3 engine, or the Vw 1.6, 1.9s that came with them from new. The reason nothing else fits is because the 1.6 and 1.9 were both modified AEE engines made to fit the 1.3 mounts (slight afterthought) so are not a straight swap with a VW polo etc. however people have put 1.8t and 1.4afh in so anything is possible!

Hmm, tricky. Thinking about it I'm pretty sure the golf has mounts front and back, but not on the cambelt end like the AEE.

However... the 1.9 diesel AHU engine currently residing in the truck originally came from a Polo, and was also fitted to Golfs etc and that uses the Skoda mounts?

I'll try and get into the garage tonight and see what the end of the block looks like.
