Running in .....

Featured Replies

So... Looking ahead :-) I've probably asked this for every car I've purchased !

Maybe a bit different this time though .....

The manual says something like ' Dont go above 3/4 of the rev range in any gear for about 1500km'

How do you manage that with a DSG ?

Don't use full throttle in Auto mode; shift before 3/4 revs in Manual.

Simply as that then.... If I use the throttle gently in drive will it generally shift up before 3/4 ?

Just drive it normally (no full throttle) and keep it out of sport mode.

It will shift way before 3/4. As long as you dont floor it.

Once upon a time you used to get a special oil to run the car in for the first 1000 miles, due to long service intervals from day one you now only get longlife oil that can be tooo  good. This can effectively polish the bores turning the engine into an oil burner for a while - this can be minimised by not being too gentle all of the time during the running in process.

I last did this to my Octavia from new and it (apart from during a breather problem) has consumed very little oil and has always been lively - despite its size. It's now 14 years old with just under 115k miles on the clock. Since then I've bought nearly new and engine technology has changed somewhat...

+1....

All 3 of our 2.0 TSi's, shift up when they reach 2K rpm on a light throttle, in fact in normal town driving the DSG keeps the engine in the 1.3K - 2.0K band when in "D".

If you use "S" mode rather than "D", but keep to the same light throttle then they will shift up / down later, but still not go past 3K rpm.

You will find that your new 280ps has many, many torques all the way through the RPM range, it's just a matter of learning to drive the car with your right foot to

get the performance you want.

Why don't you go back to your dealer & test a petrol DSG Octy vRS?

It would give a good introduction into the wonderful world of DSG, with about 90% of the performance of your new Super B.....

Simple answer, reduce pressure on gas pedal, DSG shifts up, increase pressure, DSG shifts down.............
