PD140 may be getting noisey, known issues?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I've been driving my V8 discovery for just over a week as the other half went away in my Octavia.  Getting back in the Octavia I seems noisier than I remember.  What I can only describe as 'that diesel sound' seems to be far louder than I remember under acceleration.

I may be very wrong here as it could be a placebo affect after driving the V8, bit of a shot in the dark but are there any known problems that can make it louder...?

Had a good look around the engine bay, no leaks, nothing loose and oil level is fine....

Thanks

Dave

A silky smooth petrol V8 back to an old rattly PD diesel?

My money is on the placebo effect.

Is the under-bonnet sound deadening and engine cover still attached properly?

Has there been a drop in temperature since you last drove it? My PD diesel gets a little more audible in the cold.

Thanks for your reply.  The V8 is 15 years older & 80,000 miles more than the PD140 but it does run silky smooth...!

Errr I don't remember seeing any under bonnet sound deadening, yes engine cover is attached properly.

Yes there has been an ambient air temp drop since I drove it last...
