Wheel Balancing Revisted

Featured Replies

Morning all.

Just thought I would provide an update on my previous thread in which I discussed my tracking/balancing issues and the fast inside wear of my 15k uniroyal rain sport 3's.

As I had recently fell out of love with the car, I decided to get to the bottom of the issue and check out various suspecsion components for deeper issues.

We identified that the ball joints (on both sides) and the passenger side steering rack end where the issue.

It cost me £31 (with discount) at eurocar parts in Stockport and my long time garage man charged me £30 to fit.

4 new Falken ZE-914 tyres - £220 fiited (discounted) and all 4 wheels balanced £12 (£3 each).

I then took the car to Kwik Fit yesterday, who promised that I could have a free hunter 4 geometery check (because I paid for one 7 weeks earlier before changing tyres and doing the work) and if there was only minor adjustments to be made they would do it for free, charging only if the tracking was miles out.

As you can imagine, the tracking was out, but as they were in a decent mood they put it on the hunter and sorted it for free because it was a friday

The below print out shows the results.

Got up early this morning to have a little drive, let the engine warm up on the motorway then gave it a little more juice coming home and the difference is incredible.

There is zero feedback through steering wheel, 70mph+ and the car is straight as an arrow, the general grip, pull and safety of the car is greatly improved and gives me that nice remapped feeling where you want to keep driving it.

All in all a cheap and successful job all round and well worth the effort
