iTunes library to USB stick to Amundsen

Featured Replies

Our new Octavia on order has a USB input in the Amundsen for a memory stick. It also has a single SD slot but on reading the specs that seems to be taken up with the satnav maps data,

So, I have a 160Gb iTunes library - too big to put on my iPhone. I'd like to load the whole thing onto a 256Gb memory stick and plug it in. However .... What's the best way of moving music from iTunes to a USB stick while preserving as much of the data (e.g. track listings and artwork)? And will it all be accessible from the Amundsen head unit?

Any advice gratefully received.

The way I did it was to create a file on the laptop desktop then highlighted the songs off iTunes , then dragged them into the new file , then sent this file to the dongle or storage device , hope this helps.

Re kellseye77 the response is good , but I think for file it should read folder. That should work OK. Worth also checking that you only have one SD slot, as my new Octavia with Amundsen , has two SD slots. Maps SD card in slot 1 and slot 2 empty.

My mistake AllanWMCc yes folder .

Be careful, the Amundsen does not read native iTunes music files and your whole library will need to be in MP3 format - It's a right pain.

My Amundsen has two SD card slots - one for the SatNav and the other is free.  Doesn't seem to have any trouble reading my Shuffle or 5th Gen iPod via the USB.

I'd be very surprised if the Amundsen can't read m4a files, my Columbus certainly does. They do according to the manual as well.

i do confirm the Amundsen can read m4a files. No need to convert in mp3.

Mine doesn't read M4a. I have a Mar 2015 Amundsen and it says it cannot play that file format. All my music is on a portable hard drive plugged into the USB. It will only read MP3 and .WAV files. Also the hard drive had to be formatted in FAT32. Pain in the butt but got there in the end.

Mine is the early model. m4a format is working fine on the SD.

I did'nt think plugging an HDD on the USB was working at all...

Thanks everyone. Sounds fairly simple - what could possibly go wrong? The brochure says the Amundsen can read a variety of formats including AAC, but nothing about a second SD slot - ideal if it has one.

I have a much smaller iTunes library than you but I literally just copied my whole file structure from iTunes library to sd card and loaded it into my MY16 Amundsen.

Songs and album art all loaded fine.

To JohnMorr:

see below the description of the Amundsen:

It clearly specifies 2 SD slots. I'm quite sure this is the description of the new one as mine (which also has 2 slots) is only 5.5" I think, and for sure has no MirrorLink.

So for me no doubt, you'll get 2 SD slots.
