Parking Distance Control false readings cure

Featured Replies

Bought my Octavia a couple of months ago and had the fault with PDC giving false readings when the car has gotten wet. I've been too busy to take it back for fixing under warranty and knew what the problem was. It's not unique to Skoda and the only cars that I've come across that hasn't suffered from it is BMW's. It's not a fault with the sensor but the wiring loom plug that isn't water tight and allows water in that then causes a short and the false reading. If you are suffering the same problems with false readings after it has rained then you will need to remove the sensor from the bumper. Unplug the sensor from the wiring loom. Clean out the any water trapped in the loom and sensor side with contact cleaner or WD40. Fill the contact holes in the sensor side of the connection with a contact grease (silicone grease), wipe off any excess and connect back to the wiring loom. A wrap of insulation tape around the connection will ensure no more water ingress.

Rears are easier to do than the fronts as you can easily reach them. The front inner too can be reached from under the bonnet by the radiator. The ones under the headlights are a bit of a pain as you need to remove not only the light unit but also the plastic mount it clips into at the bottom. Before you do the front ones by the headlights make sure you mark the position of not only the adjusters but the plate its self to aid refitting. The job should only take you around an hour being careful.

I would imagine this is the same for the rest of the Skoda range. BMW's don't suffer the same fate as the connectors have rubber flanges to stop water getting into them.

Hope it helps someone else suffering from annoying false readings before the wet weather returns.
