Name that rattle.

Featured Replies

Insanely boring post for some I know but was wondering if anyone have any ideas what this rattle maybe? Ignore the tractor style 3 pot engine and there's a metallic rattling noise.

I know it's near enough impossible to say exactly from a vid but any ideas would be awesome

Cheers in advance.

sounds like pinking or pre detonation.

Those 3 pots are renown for burning out valves too

Only the early ones back in 2002 were. And i think it was only the 6 valver too.

Well it is a 6v but only of the 2011 era. So next one along. If it is pinging is it goosed or could it be something as simple as the egr valve? There's no lights on the dash or owt. Just this noise.

They didnt do the 6v in 2011

The HTP was revised in 2010. The 60bhp is a detuned version of the 70hp, via nothing more than an ECU map. Theyre both 12v

And they certainly arent suffering burnt out valves as a common problem in such a recent year.

Its difficult to tell off the video. How many miles are on the car? Has it been serviced regularly?

Could it be the camchain?

It's got 50,000 ish miles on the clock and it's been serviced roughly every 12,000 or so. My bad if it ain't a 6v. It's a 60 plate but was registered in 2011 and I'm sure the car checkers tell me it's a 6v but will look into it in the morning.

The chain is a possibility. I've heard they can skip a notch occasionally but that'd defo be a garage job of it needed doing.

Sounds like its just on the changeover period then, could be either or.

Id Get it checked out by a professional if i was you mate. Theyd most likely diagnose it by simply listening to it in person (:

There were sold in 2011,

Euro V, 1.2 (1,298cc) 6 valve 3 cylinder 60ps Skoda Fabia Mk2 'S'.

Late registered 2010 models then?

The revision in 2010 turned them all 12v, along with quite a few other differences

They were in the Skoda Brochures in 2011 when the Monte Carlos were on sale.

Not much in terms of S spec cars for sale of 2010/2011 which are good examples.

Heres a Feb 2012 registered 12v 60hp though.

Maybe not correct, but usually they are.

Bit confusing

Maybe 2012 it was then. Strange as the revisions and longer ratio gearbox was 2010, or so i thought.

Never the less though, i think its been quite some time since the 6v has suffered problems with the valves. Pretty sure it was just right at the start of their manufacture in 2002 and was sorted afterwards

Whatever the type of build or engine spec - that's pinking imho

Maybe get garage to get some det cans connected and go for a drive?

Right. Had it in to a few places now and they all say it's a chain rattle. All previous ars have had belts so this is a new one on me. Does anyone know if it's a big job? Or how much we'd be looks at for such a job? Or is it something you can do at home?

VERY unlikely to be 'pinking' - you need to be under load to promote that situation
