Tyres

Featured Replies

Just had 4 Continental Premium Contact 5s fitted after 49000 kilometres and the 4 wheel tracking done and adjusted,  all for 417 euros or £303 which seemed quite cheap to me, how does it compare to the UK? Just hope they last as long as originals.

16", 17" or 18"?

49,000 km's = 30,500 miles.

It's unusual for a front wheel drive car to wear all four tyres evenly. Have you rotated or is it a 4x4?

16" and yes rotated at about 25000 kilometres. The backs were feathering/saw toothing on the inner edge and the fronts were also starting to scrub the edges too

I've also got 16" wheels (205 55 r16)  on mine with the original Continentals.

Mine has about 18k miles on the clock and I've just rotated to equalise wear. Still have about 7mm in the centre of all of them but the edges were showing slight signs of wear on the front. However I reckon they will last well in excess of 30k.

Aiming to eventually replace all 4 together and will probably give a set of Michelin Cross Climate all season tyres a go - These are a long lasting summer tyre re designed for all season use rthaer than the usual winter tyre modified for summer use - review look good

@Bigjohn: Where did you find an independent review or test of these Michelin Cross Climate tyres? I couldn't find one...

My 18" Continentals are just coming up to 30K miles. I have been twice in the last two months to my tyre fitter and he keeps saying come back in a months time. I don't think the tyres have been rotated. Will certainly have same brand tyre  fitted next time.

Thats pretty good at that mileage. I only got 30k Kms (19k miles) out of my last (original) set of the I8" contis. I'm almost on 35k Kms on Bridgestones (rotated at 15k Kms) so a bit more this time but they are nearly ready to be changed too.

@Bigjohn and @james0james: The testresults that you're refering to are tests made by the German TUV SUD. This test was ordered and paid for by .... Michelin! Not what I would call an independent test result.

However, Autoexpress just published a completely new All Season tyre test! So I looked it up ...  and found out that they omitted the most important newcomer, the Michelin CrossClimate  :wall:  :swear: .

I cannot believe that they missed the Michelin from the test as well :'(          I have heard that one of the German magazines are also planning an all season test this year so hopefully they will select the Cross Climate for review.         I just dobbed out for a pair of Goodyear winters for the front on my Fiat (the rear winters were fine), but I am seriously considering a set of Cross climate for the Superb as the original set of summers are nearly worn out at 62,000 miles. If I don't go for Michelin, then the all season Goodyear Vector gen 2 will be the likely choice or another set of summers.
