Diagnostic Charge for Warranty repairs

Featured Replies

Booked the car in for a fault on the Haldex - VCDS diagnosed the Clutch Pump as been u/s. But before I got to the dealer the car went into limp mode. Another VCDS scan showed Aux Cooling pump issue. Was advised by AA not to drive and got recovered to my local dealer.

As part of the booking for the original Haldex fault - I agreed to pay an hours labour for the diagnostics. I assumed this was to be paid if no fault was found or the issue was out of warranty.

When I collected the car, work done was:

Haldex Clutch Pump,

Aux and main cooling pumps,

New cambelt, haldex oil and coolant

New shock absorber and top mount (the AA recovery man noticed it leaking as it was on the flatbed)

I also agreed to pay £144 part only for the belt tensioners as they were changing the drive belt just in case they contaminated it changing the cooling pumps.

Obvioulsy, this was all under the used car warranty and overall am very happy with the whole skoda experience - from the AA recovery, hire car, courtesy car and then speed of resolution. However, I'm a little taken aback having to pay the diagnostic charge when the issues were covered under the warranty.

Is this normal and is there any comeback?

well I'd pay up and run like hell :sun:

Usually you agree to pay the diagnostic charge if no fault is found or the fault is not covered by warranty. I would imagine that the diagnostic charge will be included in the warranty claim. Maybe the dealer is trying to make a few more quid.

Most extended warranty companies do not cover diagnosis.

Only one shock was replaced? They should be replaced in axle pairs.

Was thinking of buying a warranty until I noticed that they all seem to exclude diagnostic charges; on my only repair outside warranty the diagnostic charge was higher than the labour so decided the warranty wasn't worth it !

When I owned an Octavia II 1.8TSI 4X4 and opted to buy a the Skoda Approved Extended Warranty and Breaakdown, there were no charges for diagnosing rear transmission failure and nor a front wheel bearing failure. Both repairs were carried FOC.
