I've read mixed info re this so whats the experience on here? Will it play apple m4A files? Is it a major PITA to get album artwork to work? I'll be fed up if it is with the new cars not having cd players...

Hi. I transferred my whole iTunes library onto an SD card by simply dragging and dropping after setting up folders for artists and folders within those folders for multiple albums where necessary. I drove a MY15 VRS for two weeks before getting my car (MY16 VRS) and there was no artwork. When I got in mine, I put the same SD card in and hey presto, 99% of the files had artwork. Also all my DAB station logos came up automatically too. So I reckon you should be fine if the car is MY16 which if it's lost the CD, it will be. As an aside, I was spewing when I found out initially about losing the CD player as my car was ordered before the new MY change, but having had the car for three weeks now and having all my music on the SD card, I realise I was getting worked up over nothing. The sound quality from the digital files is also superb.

I found out from here it wont have a cd player, the sales guy said it would! I ordered end of June, expecting delivery any time now as it has been shipped. I think the worst thing about the cd player is the awful lump of plastic in its place!

Nico it is what it is. The way I found out was the same. I was outraged. My posts are on here. But on reflection, and given all the other **** going on in the world, I think I sounded a bit foolish now. The glovebox is still plenty big enough. You'll never see the "Slab of plastic" unless you drive around with the glovebox open. The car itself is immense, I smile everyday driving it. Intuitive controls. Quick, composed, comfortable and quiet. I also feel like I'm driving something a little bit special too with the VRS. Transferring data really was no big deal in the end and like I say, the sound quality is exceptional on the MY16 cars. MY15 aren't as good as the levels are all wrong, and this IS a genuine issue as I drove these cars back to back with the same SD card. Don't sweat the small stuff, you'll love your new car when it comes.

Completely agree with Skodev. You are asking about mp4a files and album artwork so assume you are sufficiently versed in SD cards and digital music. In that case you will miss the cd player for less than 10 seconds when you collect your car. Get a 128gb memory card, put all your music on it and you will never need to muck around with cds again. I just copied the contents of my ITunes music folder onto the card, put the card in amd away I went. Album art is a bit hit and miss but seems to show some but not all but that is down to the way I have imported album art sometimes.

The acid test on the cd player was my wife. She was really upset but now she has the car and all her cds on an SD card and in the car permanently she has not said a word.

Thanks for the re assurance! I have bought a high speed card ready to transfer all my stuff ready for collection!

I was concerned at first but copied all our cd's onto an Sd card using mediamonkey with all the artwork included and it is so much easier than having cd's junking up the car
