New Dashcam

Featured Replies

Recently made a post about the Transcend Drivepro 220, fitted today some people may not like where it is but I didn't want it hidden. Haven't hard wired yet as I've been off work and the wiring I need is there :)

Will get a video up later as I'm off to get fuel now happy with the camera and can't wait to catch some good footage on there.

Wires are run in the headlining and down inside the seal actually really happy with the wiring so far.

First bit of footage

Same camera as mine and same setup and position although mine may be slightly closer to the mirror. It's a decent camera with good quality recording. Mine is hard wired. I like the wifi functionality. If you don't us the car for around 3 days then the date is lost so be aware of that, transcend haven't fixed this in their updates despite claims to the contrary.

If your interested in seeing footage from around UK and have face book join Idiot Drivers UK it's a bit of an eye opener!

I did read about that, I thought that was the 200 that had a built in capacitor and the 220 has a battery.

Going to plug into rear wiper fuse or some other ignition only one and I've got a 12v female socket ready too. Should be a tidy job once it's done.

Maybe it's better now, fingers crossed.

I wired into a spare switched live using a piggy back holder and hid the female socket in the panel at the end of the dash where the drivers door shuts.

Spare ? Didn't know there was spares. Haven't even looked at the fuses yet just ordered all of the stuff got the piggy back fuse wiring and socket ready just need to get a probe in to find out which is ignition only.

It's one of the mini blades. I can have a look and tell you which one if you want? Been connected for a year with no issues using piggy back

Ah don't have a mini blade connector got a normal fuse connector. Didn't look at that, will have to check fuse diagrams tomorrow.

Technoman reviewed them , the camera location is better suited to lhd cars so not ideal for uk roads

Oppsssss I bought it now

Maybe it's better now, fingers crossed.

I couldn't see a standard size spare blade fuse so I piggy backed onto IIRC a lecky window fuse - the piggy back allows separate fuses for each item covered, so maintained the correct fuse rating.

Otherwise exactly the same as Jonro2009 , using a female trailing socket allows the use of the camera's transformer, and means for insurance purposes it's not a hardwired mod.

Go it today and I must say it's very good in 1080p full hd. And the review saying it's better for lhd I think it's good for rhd as the camera can be move up down left and right. I will post a video soon.

And I love the lcd in the corner looks snazzy

Will post one in the dark see what it looks like in an hour or so

I got a Mini 0806, hides quite well behind the mirror and can be positioned quite close to the center of the windscreen.

Received Transcend pro 200 cam this morning. All up and running in fifteen minutes, hard wiring at a future date. Had to turn audio down as every couple of minutes,on playback,I could hear me "name" calling those who did not meet my excacting standards....

Don't buy a dashcam without looking at the Techmoan website. The bloke is excellent and reviews very watchable.

I bought the A118 for our Fabia. It fits nicely behind the mirror with hardly any of it in view inside or out, very discrete !

Hi,

Just to let you know that a number of our insurance schemes do offer discounts for a wide range of in-car cameras.

Regards,

Dan.

Further to my own dash cam choice,Transcend Pro 200, I've found the software with the android app.not the best, but the camera is proving a very good buy. I purchased a "32" card at the same time and  have it on the five minute loop.My next serious problem is obtaining a hard wiring kit for idiots that I can use.Any thoughts please....

An auto electrician should be able to hard wire it in for about £20 but it's easy enough to use a piggy back fuse holder and a female 12v socket.

Thank you Jonro,Maplin and your self enabled me to take the bull by the horns, leaving one doddery old fart with a hard wired dash cam all completed by his doddery farty self!

Did you manage to buy the piggy back fuse- female adaptor from maplin?

The quality isn't that great is it, or is it just that one video that isn't great?

I purchased the full kit from Maplin for £14:99. It has power lead to reduction box ( hidden by headlining and piller a cover). After the reduction box there's a neg lead and pos lead. The posotive lead has a bullet connection. Also in the pack are two extra leads ,one with a large piggy back fuse, the other a small piggy back fuse leaving you the choice. Not having the trim stripping tools I used a small flat bladed screwdriver to remove pillerctrim and end of dash trim.Total time 30 minutes.Hope this helps.

That looks like a really good kit. I would have used something like that if I had seen it but I just made my own 12v socket and used the supplied power cable.
