Boot catch question

Featured Replies

Good evening all

I have recently bought an Octavia 2009 tsi dsg

When I press the boot release button on the key fob the boot catch releases but then i have to manually press the button to open it fully.

Is this normal or a fault?

has anyone had similar problems?

Please advise

Thanks

Needs some lube - on the catch.

wd40 suitable or something else?

wd40 suitable or something else?

I think I used some lithium grease, or silicon spray rather wd40.

Pretty sure mine has always done the same. Rubbish.

Assuming the car is locked, if you press and release the button straight away it unlocks, but doesn't release.

If you press and hold the button for a second or two, it unlocks and releases it so all you have to do is lift the boot up.

At least that's how mine works, only found that out myself in the last few days.

When you press and hold the boot release button two things happen:

1. The lock catch releases.

2. The open catch is pushed up by a small arm below the lock hidden under the plastic flap.

The plastic flap doesn't release and close the gap until the arm returns to its starting position.

What seems to happen us that the arm gets gummed up and doesn't move freely. Often this means the flap stays down for several seconds until the arm drops back down. The arm doesn't have enough umpf to push the catch off the locking bar, so you have to press the button on the boot lid to get it to open.

A spot of lube makes it all better.
