SE Business spec and other questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got the printed brochure now but it makes no mention of the business SE spec so what does it have over standard SE? There is one in Sparshatts Fareham with a few extras and a 1.6 tdi motor. Are they only available in diesel form and do they have any more tech? I see that media system is the 6.5" Bolero unit.

I'm torn between budget and gadgets and I've calculated that if I wanted to spec up the SE to include some of the desirable features of the SE L Exec, it's cheaper to go for the model L Exec. I am though leaning towards a 1.4 tsi dsg motor rather than more expensive diesel with more expensive servicing and more things to go wrong. Would I though get a better GMFV with the diesel that more than makes up for the higher initial value compared to the petrol variant? I would expect to do 20K miles a year with a PCP over three years.

Any advice appreciated as I'm in the market to order and don't believe half the stuff sales people tell you in the show room.

Thanks

There is an individual brochure for the SE business, so if you google it you will find it. I believe you get low end satnav, alcantara interior and privacy glass above the SE.

If you add all the extra features of the SE-L exec spec as options to an SE then it costs about £1500 more, so go for SE-L exec instead.  Resale value will be based on spec level.

If you only want one or 2 extra features then its a different answer.

The SE Business is only available as a diesel, it is the rep special, a modern version on the sierra or cavalier of 1980s

You say 20,000 miles x 3 years.  So you intend to spend a lot of time in the car, therefore what level of comfort do you want, and can your bank balance stretch to the higher spec.

If you are doing a PCP, there is also a 42 month option (and you can buy extended warranty at start), you should do sums with this option as well as extra few months might work out financially better overall as you defer the handback decision.   Not sure if you intend to keep the car and buy it at end of PCP (if so, the initial choice of spec to what you would like is more important as you will have it for longer)   You are making correct decision on petrol for long term (many predict expensive repairs £2k on emissions equipment on euro6 diesels in years 4-6)

I would go for the 1.4 TSI 150 over a 1.6 tdi  (both the petrol 125 and small diesel will struggle on hills when car loaded)  As a general rule avoid the weakest engines in a range,  it will need more gear changes, wont be so enjoyable to drive, and because it will need to be pushed hard to accelerate, will probably need more maintenance over time.  Ignore the official fuel consumption results, no-one drives that gently in everyday driving so wont really save any fuel compared to next engine size up.

My view is work out what spec options are essential to you, which are nice to have, and which you are not worried about, then choose your spec depending best fit of list.

I presume you're ruling out PCH? That's where the Business is the business. I was looking at SE but was told to get leather. That meant either a £1350 extra or a £3k upgrade to exec (with all the nice toys you get with that), but full leather on a business is only £200, and the PCH deals are very attractive. If buying, I'd be looking at a heavily discounted exec.

SE Business brochure is here: http://www.skoda.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Brochures/seBusinessModelBrochureJuly2015.pdf

You get the following as extras over the SE:

  • Sunset glass
  • Alcantara/leather interior
  • Amundsen Sat Nav
  • Front and rear park sensors
  • Electrically adjustable drivers seat
  • 17" Stratos alloy wheels
  • Bluetooth+ with Phone Box

Primarily aimed at fleet market hence the lack of petrol engines

The SE-L Exec gets these over the SE:

  • 18" Zenith alloy wheels
  • Bi Xenon headlights with LED DRLs
  • Headlight washers
  • Boot net programme
  • Electrically operated boot
  • Electrically adjustable drivers seat
  • Full leather interior
  • Heated seats
  • Sunset glass
  • Electrically adjustable, heated and folding door mirrors with memory
  • Auto dimming rear view mirror
  • Columbus sat nav
  • Drive mode selection

Interestingly, the first dealer I visited refused to sell me a business, saying it was only available to VAT-registered companies on a lease basis. That suggested to me that he was concerned about cannibalisation...

Unless you use outside finance or cash, you can't own the SE Business at the end of the term, you have to hand it back.

So all you're saying is that there are no Skoda PCP/HP finance options for the business? That sounds about right.
