Please help garage think I'm nuts

Featured Replies

Please help I recently bought a skoda octavia vrs 2010.

When ever the car is reved at 2000rpm there is a weird rattle but can only really be heard from inside the car.

About a week later it went into full blown rattle like two bits of metal grinding on each other but again can only hear from inside of the car. It stopped when the heater was put on to auto then off. But now I can hear a faint whiting noice and am getting very paranoid about it. Never had problems with my last octavia :( also can belt has recently been done and I can hear a wool woop woop noise that it's high pitched and heard more when car is stationary any ideas

Can any one help please :(

Sorry. Those noises don't ring any bells.  It's one of those faults that you need to be in front of the car to diagnose I think.

Look for lose heat shields around turbo and exhaust. Also check the undertray is secure.

You're not nuts.

If I understand your complaint correctly, I had the same and was told its a known issue.

The two fuel pipes from the tank go under the car in some kind of a square section tunnel.

They need to be going in a rubber (foam) isolation pipes but those might be missing.

Replacing these foam pipes is a 10 minutes tasks. Solved my rattling issue instantly.

Hope this helped.

Sounds like your A/C pump is noisy. When A/C is on the noise stops. When off it rattles.

You can confirm this by removing the alternator belt that runs the A/C pump and starting the car. If the noise is no longer there then you have norrowed the noise down to either the A/C pump or the alternator. It is most likely to be the A/C pump as its a VERY common fault and the noise starts + stops depending on whether the A/C is on or off but obviously thats up to the garage to diagnose with the car in front of them

I have the same noise?!?!?

Thought it might have been engine related but doesn't/isn't coming from engine bay

Can't be heard when out side car

Sounds like it's coming from under the drivers seat area but under the car

Totally doing my head in will have a look at the fuel pipes :-/

Can you post a picture of the part and it's position if possible.

As above its doing my head it!!

Well!!!!

After following the advice on here I removed the under tray on the drivers side and found the 2 fuel pipes

Clear and black pipes I guess one is flow to engine and one is return ...

Well I could feel the rattle though the pipes ....

Where the pipes enter into the under side of car there is a square tunnel which does have a lose fitting foam block

I wrapped the fuel pipes in thick foam tape and then cable tied them together loosely and its solved the problem instantly!!

Most have been really bad as its really quite now :)

Any way one rattle solved :)
