Another Interior Lighting Thread

Featured Replies

Lack of light in the rear of the Fabia estate is a bit of an annoyance. Nearly a year ago I picked up a Vauxhall Astra rear light, mainly because it had been cut out with a chunk of headlining so still had the steel frame, and finally have gotten around to fitting it.

I measured the depth available in the headlining with a pin, there seems to be a crossmember in line with the rear grab handles but just to the front of them there is plenty of depth available. As the light had come with the headlining still attached, that made for a perfect template:

Next the irreversable bit... cutting out is easy with a Stanley knife luckily:

Obviously the Vauxhall wiring is complete different, so flat cable spliced onto some ordinary wire:

As others on here have done, I tapped into the factory light rather than cutting into the wiring. The door triggered lighting is switched ground. Soldered and glued:

Then cables pulled through via a plastic draw rod (actually the capping from some mini trunking):

Finally wires crimped on (then taped over):

Pushed up into the roof space and the factory foam used to hopefully stop rattles:

And the job done:

As the wiring is tapped into on the light unit, there is one limitation: the back light door activation is dependent on the front light being enabled for the same. But as that's the normal position it works fine for me (and passengers can turn them on independently both stationary and in motion).
