Cure Times

Featured Replies

Hi

For those that know....

What's the cure time for Collinite (the insulator stuff) and FK1000?

Thanks in advance.

Collinite 476........5 to 10 minutes for buffing off...........1 to 2 hours before adding another coat.....Times dependent on temperature..845 ...slightly longer

No idea for FK1000...Never used it

Why do you ask Andy?

Too many variables.

Swipe test is your friend!

In most cases correct, but some waxes require almost instant removal...others can sit longer..

A swipe test doesn't help in those cases IMO

What is a `swipe test`, please?

See if the wax comes off with a wipe of your finger

For the products stated, the swipe test is perfect Chris. There aren't any WOWO products there.

No WOWO product....Correct

I believe I answered the question correctly. The swipe test is fine, but Andy asked for a time

You answered the question in your first post, yes. The 2nd could be confusing as the swipe test applies to the products in the OP, thats all.

What is wrong with this section and you lot?

I like to give advice and is based on experience of the product and other similar ones

I get the impression that any advice I give is a theme for disagreement and a fondness to gang up with the 'Like' button !!

There's nothing confusing at all Neil.

Perhaps the OP should reply and see if he is confused.

Wo wo, don't be like that Chris. There is no ganging up at all. I just felt that BT22 advice of the swipe test was bang on, and it could be confusing to the OP that you were saying the swipe test was not applicable to his products.

Come on buddy. Everyone appreciates your experience and the time you give on here. I know we can't always agree, there is always more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak, but don't take things personally matey, it's just opinion on detailing products and methods.

Chin up mate.

Thankyou

See if the wax comes off with a wipe of your finger

Thanks, Chris.

Thanks Chris, Ben and Hunty. Advice appreciated. I have never really left it too long before wiping off with a MF when using Collinite. Probably top end 2/3 mins and wonder if this is affecting its bonding or performance at all? Plan to wax on top of my Abyss sealant. No real idea on wax cure times. Assume the swipe test is where if your finger swipes the wax off it's 'cured' and ready to be wiped off??

Yes mate. If the wax smears you know it needs a little while longer. FK1000P is really easy to use too. You can apply to the whole car and then start buffing where you started applying. You need a nice thin layer for that mind.

Thanks mate.

Re: 845 Insulator Wax

Collinite Insulator Wax (845) should only be applied by hand. For best results, it should be applied to perfectly clean surfaces as thinly and evenly as possible using a Foam Applicator Pad or a Microfibre Applicator Pad. The resulting film should be left to cure for between 5-10 minutes, and then buffed off carefully using a soft/deluxe Buffing Towel.

Cheers Chris. I've probably not let it cure enough on past applications. Will pay more attention next time!

Not sure if comparable but they say to let menzerna powerlock (my current #1 sealant) cure for 2 hours before attempting to top with a wax (like Collinite)

Some sealants Jason, require advice that goes beyond what is normal

I always read instructions, particularly on those type of products

Bonding to paintwork and all that.......

Totally agree Chris. We are so blessed with a helpful community on here. People with such a knowledge of products and detailing methods that can realise that the swipe test applies to every product in a list and can give that advice that goes beyond what is normal on a car enthusiasts detailing section.

Great advice given on here and a great positive post to all contributions on here, awesome to see, Chris

Just had a look on Polished Bliss...There appears to be a 'New' Powerlock which requires a shorter cure time:

Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant should be applied by hand. For best results, apply it to freshly polished paint using a Blackfire Ultimate Applicator Pad (try to avoid getting it on unpainted trims, but if you do be sure to wipe it off straight away, otherwise staining may occur). Only 2-3 pea-sized drops of product are required per panel, and these should be applied as thinly and evenly as possible to produce a film that should then be left to cure for up to 15 minutes. Once hazed over, this film should then be buffed off carefully using a PB Deluxe Buffing Towel
