VW ... Rumours starting already ...

Featured Replies

So why would they spend money producing something that will only result in improving our chances of getting redress? That seems most unlikely to me and was the process point I tried to make rather than challenging any technicalities.

Sorry, missed that question.  Again, it's because they have to be seen to be doing something to correct the damage caused and it will also have financial implications.  The US EPA fine will likely be calculated on the basis of how well they can reduce the emissions on the affected cars.  It's pretty unlikely some variants will ever pass the emissions test they were meant to but VW may be able to improve them at least a good part.  It might mean the difference between a $10k and $20k fine per car.

VW need to eat some serious humble pie but you can bet your life there will be teams of people working hard behind close doors to try and work out what the least impactful outcome short, medium and long term may be.  I've no idea what that is but it'll be very interesting to see how it pans out - it may end up being cheaper in the US for them to give each owner a replacement car, not that they'll likely do that given the precedent it will set for European owners.

Should be the End of VW as a Brand, Skoda needs to be top and Audi a miserable second.

I was on the tail end of a longish posting under this thread when the page started  dancing about and eventually all disappeared.  Prior to that, the latter words I typed  would not appear. Windows is a load of crap.

What type of emissions was the UK defeat software trying to optimise in EU5 engines? CO2? NOX? Both?

I'm baffled as to what the remapping of the 2.0 engine in UK models will achieve. Presumably The mapping is all about balancing NOX, CO2 and performance. My guess is that reducing NOX at the cost of increased CO2/fuel consumption will not be acceptable by authorities. If getting within emission limits is achieved at the cost of performance, then customers will be grumpy.

No it isn't.
