Ignition reader coil replacement

Featured Replies

Hi

I've had a problem with the immobiliser on my 1.4Mpi 52 plate Fabia Estate.  The car intermittently fails to start and gives an error code in the instrument cluster suggesting that the reader coil is faulty (no other fault codes other than 'engine won't start as immobiliser blocked'). I can start the car if I plug in VCDS Lite and clear the code, but carrying a laptop and cables around isn't exactly ideal!  I've ordered a replacement coil through a VAG (non-dealer) specialist four weeks ago, but been told it will be a further four weeks before the coil may turn up (seems as if the supplier is struggling to obtain the part from Czech).

My question is, given the time it is taking to source the part, is there an alternative source of reliable replacement coils/keys. I'm not fussed if the car has two sets of keys (door/ignition etc) and understand that any new keys would need coding, but am getting concerned as the MOT is rapidly approaching.

Thanks

David
