How to achieve Octavia vRS DSG farts

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm currently in the market for a new car, as we have a baby on the way and our 3 door MKV GTI sadly has to go. We're currently cross-shopping a MK7 Golf R and a new Octavia RS. I understand they aren't natural competitors, but I figure if we are going to make space compromises for the Golf, we may as well go the whole hog and get the R.

Anyway, my question is this: what mods are required to get the Octavia RS to make the DSG "fart" on full throttle upshifts, like a GTI or R? Does a stage 1 tune alone do it? Or a down pipe? Or a cat back system? Something else? Or is it not possible?

I currently drive a manual and cannot justify driving a DSG (as my missus would prefer) if it's not going to make beautifully rewarding farty, popping noises on upshifts.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Reece

I'm led to believe the new 230bhp vRS has an updated exhausts and makes a crackle between gear changes!

leaving the fart issue to one side - you can get the Golf R as an estate if you want a 300bhp metric truck ton of space :) 1600liters with the seats down i believe, so comparable to the VRS

Milltek catback or just remove the resonator. Milltek will give double farts some times :)

Thanks for the reply. Have you done this mod yourself?

Unfortunately, only a few hundred of these were allocated to Australia and they sold within four days - 5 months before they arrived in the country!

It sure does - and it sounds perfect to me:

My 67 plate 245 sounds nothing like this.

Thank god my 230 doesn’t either

This is mine from cold start. 3" milltek with sport cat and non res

My 220 vRS DSG is totally silent on upshifts too.  I assumed that a free flowing exhaust system would be the answer, but I secretly suspect it may also be ECU/TCU software related.

Such a shame that similar "performance-oriented" cars on the MQB platform sound so much better than ours from stock and have valved exhaust systems (Golf R, Leon Cupra, S3).

Comparable, but not equivalent.  The Octavia has slightly more boot capacity, but the real difference is in the rear leg room.
