Fabia vs M3...

Featured Replies

Well my Fabia easily won on the stopping front. I stopped on a sixpence and my friend behind me in his M3 didnt manage to stop even after 100 yards of locked-disc skidmarks.

Pretty sure the car is written off, might get 4k for it, but I am planning to try and save up anotehr 4-5 and get a vRS :D

Opps!

:wrthless: ... of the M3 too. Is he still your friend and what state is his M3 in?

Doesn't the M3 come with ABS?

Chris

modern M3 will have ABS, ESP and TC

and it doesn't matter what car you have it will take forever to stop with the wheels locked

There is a pic of the m3 in the thumbnails I posted. I had some other pics but they were done at night and not very good.

We had to jack up the M3 and remove a wheel to panelbeat the wheelarch so he could atleast get 3/4 lock on for the 170mile drive he had to get home :(

Were still good friends, even if I had whiplash for 2 days and managed to knock my eyebrow on the steering wheel! Unfortunatly for him he only had third party insurance (well he is aged 20 with a group 20 ins car!).

One thing I did wonder however, should either of our airbags have gone off, because neither did in this instance, and the Skoda garage somehow set mine off and had to replace it ...

ouch... interesting comparing the damage though

his air-bag definitly should have deployed

now i'm not a mechanic or anything but i'd say both cars are written off with that damage.

My car is almost certainly written off. His is not quite so bad (,mind you his is worth almost ten while mine is worth almost five).

Ironically his brother works for Skoda, so any parts I needed I could get more cheaply, but since the floorpan is damaged, the car will more than likely be scrapped.

His car needs a new front bumper, subframe, headlight andbonnet ( although you could possibly panelbeat it out ). Also one of the supporting struts for the sub-frame and the crumple zone needs some beating back into shape. I think he is looking at about 3k, but bare in mind he can get labour free from his brother.

Apparently his ABS did not kick in, and neither did the airbags, although apparently if the passenger airbag goes off it basically totals the dashboard. So should I take it that my airbag should not have gone off cause it wasnt a frontal inpact?

?? Surely the wheels SHOULD'T have locked

thats what what i was saying about surely he had ABS, his car obviously wasn't running right as the ABS didn't work and the air-bag didn't fire.

all i was saying is it doesn't matter what car you are driving if the wheels are locked it will take anage to come to a stop

It looks like an E36 M3 evo as it's estoril blue. This model had ABS.

I assume that you stopped on a sixpence because you initiated the braking, being in front and your friend was either driving too close as per speed or he just reacted too late?

Does seem like the M3 may have been faulty?

Definitely sounds like something was seriously wrong with that M3, as well as possibly being too close, as those things have some seriously good brakes.

M3 normal stopping distance from 60mph is 37m.

Standard Furby - 60-0 36m.

I think you found the missing 1m in your boot

170 miles with a car looking like that!! I bet he got some interesting looks from other road users.

Out of interest - where can you get those figures please, and has someone done a similar test with the 312mm upgrade, see if it makes things better?

Thanks

Furby figures from MikeJay on 12-04-2005 11:49:

just been conpairing the stats of a standard furby against some big boys! even in standard it holds its own. would love to see the stats on a remapped one.
