New Honda Civic review - Autoexpress

Featured Replies

Honda have put some more information on their website about this as well.

It's looking like a very nice car but the one thing that is putting me off is the fixed stereo that can't be changed , and the upgrades to the speakers that Honda are offering are very expensive.

I'll have to wait and see when it goes on sale , but 0-60 in 8.6 seconds and 55mpg are very tempting.

Wow! I love the interior...

I hope the 3 door looks better though.

Looks like Honda are onto a winner

If they do a hot diesel I can see what my next car could be... :rubchin:

Heh, this is quite funny cos over on the CTR forums I'd say that most opinions are that the new civic shape suxor. In fact that is one of the main reasons quite a few of us are jumping ship ;)

Much improved. It does'nt look like 'an old man's car' anymore

Well the 2.2 diesel produces 140bhp and on paper is slightly faster than a furby VRS.

I don't think honda do a more powerful 4 cylinder diesel engine so thats probably all you'll get.

As for the shape , it's a vast improvement on the current 5 door civic but I can see why owners of the current 3 door version might not like it.

I seem to remember reading that there will be a new 3 door one and of course a type R in due course.

Well, the new Honda Civic Si with that body in America is out and has the 197bhp engine of the Type-R, and does the same 0-60 time as the older hatchback.

And by the way, the new Civic that was just released here looks completely different to that one, and I can happily say that the new Civic here looks like a small Acura! The VTi model has over 150bhp in its 1.8...this one...

I saw a 55 plate new Civic last week, between Leicester and Derby on the M1 in early morning traffic, and apart from the 'groovy' Triangular exhaust, I thought the car was rather too radical, so I'm not sure if I like it (I'll reserve judgement).

As I was stuck in [traffic in] the fast lane and only got a couple of glimse of it (enough to see the badges and exhausts, so I know it WAS a new Civic), it was difficult to get an idea of its overall size in comparison the the old Civic, and also whether the fact the it now slopes more at the rear would affect storage/head room.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Too Japanesy looking to me. It looks so futuristic that it reminds me of all those 80's concept cars and that is not a good thing. But forget about that, it looks great inside and you can't argue with the price given the performance and economy.

You LIKE that? Oh no! Honda have gone all French on us. It looks like they've tried to make the interior like some sort of space-ship. Bloody ridiculous.

So as not to detract from the fifth gear thread,I think its good.

Must say,Honda are one of the few companies whose gizmos and gadgets I would trust to work.A quality car company (with a few ugly ducklings thrown in;) )

Saw one for the first time on Friday night, battling my way through Kidsgrove in an attempt to get South but avoid using the M6.

Anyway, I thought it looked really smart, especially compared to the 'old' 5-door Civic

Can't help thinking it looks like a sexy Allegro!!! :D

 That's a contradiction in terms!

Well, you know what I mean! :)

I think we'll see a lot more radical designs from all suppliers in the next couple of years. BMW have proved that you can sell more outrageous designs now.

Phil

I think it looks great -

Designs have to go forward in order to stay fresh, I hated the new BMW when i first saw it and now I think its a very nice looking car.

I have to say that the new Octy was i a bit of a shock when i saw it but im picking up my second one this week, new stuff sometimes takes time to get used to, remember the Ford sierra, a jelly mould in a world of square, and how many of them did they sell?
