Swooshing Petrol Tank Noise

Featured Replies

I own a citigo 1.0 automatic, I have had it just over a year now, what I have noticed is that when the petrol tank is full it is fine there is no Swooshing noise , but if the tank is half full or less there is this swooshing noise ( the petrol moving back and forth in the tank on acceleration & Braking) .

I have had this looked into by my Skoda garage and they say its an intermittent fault as it only happens when the tank is half full or less and this is normal as the tank sits under the drivers seat and there is less insulation in this area. I have never had this happen on any previous vehicles and just wondered if anyone on this forum has experienced this or can advise.

Many thanks in advance

Jules

surely it's quite obvious that a half full tank will make a swooshing noise? Shake a full milk carton and then shake a half full one, which ones makes more noise?

Just turn your radio up and forget about it, or fitted a baffled tank like you find in race cars.

Get this a lot in my 9th gen Honda Civic as the petrol tank is under the front seats!! Would think this is something to worry about, although I have never had this in my Citigo!

Same on our Mii but I believe those models that have wheel liners don't hear it as much,

Thought it was under the rear seats. Almost sure.

I think you are right but the rear wheel arch liners do make a difference. For example, when filling the Mii you can hear the fuel going in, but my Yeti ( rear fuel tank) is quiet.
