OEM towbar electrics

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have ordered a new Fabia and have opted for the towbar, as at £410 it seems like a good deal compared to some aftermarket ones I've had fitted before. The only thing is that the dealer couldn't confirm how integrated the electrics are i.e. on some when you connect the electric hookup to the trailer it turns off the rear parking sensors and displays a trailer on the dash.

I just wanted to know what to expect so that I know it's all working correctly. Appreciate anyone clarifying.

Also any other comments iro the towbar that may be of interest are welcome. Thanks.

Rear parking sensors shouldn't go mental and rear fog light should not turn on if its coded correctly. Also alarm will go off if the car is locked and the trailer is unplugged.

Welcome to the forum.

Whoever you spoke to at the Dealers should have gone and found the answer and left you in no doubt,

or within an hour or so got back to you with the answer.

After all their job at car dealerships is to sell cars and accessories and when they can not be bothered, i would tell them to

maybe go and ask the boss about getting some Sales and Customer Services training.

Electrics are integrated, sensors wont blow off when a trailer is hooked. The connector is the new 13-pin standard, be sure the daler include a 7-pin converter when picking up the car.

Only PITA is that youll have to attach the towball the Skoda-way, on your knees. The much smarter VW pull-a-string and the towball folds out is not a Fabia-option.

Thanks guys. Good to know the alarm will go off if it's disconnected as it will regularly have our cycles on the back.

This will be my first removable, I was advised not to have a flange ball due to the sensors. Not a problem really as I rarely need a trailer and cycle rack. But shame vw aren't sharing all the modern tricks, or not given recent developments.
